Pompeii is thought to have been founded in the 5th or even 6th century BC. At the time, it was a... more+ large city with a population of 20,000, but an earthquake in 63 AD, followed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, buried the entire city with such suddenness that the inhabitants were unable to take shelter. As the ashes solidified, they protected the site, which is still rich in paintings, mosaics and sculptures. Half-day excursion (approx. 4 hours).
Herculaneum was destroyed in August 79 by a violent lava flow, which on drying became a kind of crust that helped to preserve the site. Almost all the inhabitants of this small aristocratic town were able to escape, unlike the 2,000 or so Pompeians who perished. Half-day excursion (approx. 3h30).
Vesuvius looms dark against the clear Campania sky, where the age of the flows can be seen on the ground; the poor vegetation covers the 18th-century streaks. Continuation to Pompeii for a visit to the site and the magnificent Villa dei Mysteri, whose many rooms are decorated with paintings of a high artistic standard, particularly the triclinium room, which contains the scene that gave the villa its name. Full-day excursion with lunch (approx. 8.00 am).
Discover some of the most authentic places in one of the city's richest contrasts and treasures. Half-day excursion (approx. 3h30).
