The Netherlands is a constitutional hereditary monarchy since 1815 , having been a republic between 1581 and 1806 , then occupied by France between 1806 and 1815. The country would have to refer to its low altitude and therefore its continuing battle against the water .
The Netherlands are founding members of the Organization of the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) , the European Union ( EU) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) .
People traveling to the Netherlands generally feed the desire to see the canals , houses with gabled facade ( as in Amsterdam ) and the famous windmills . They are also there to taste the beers and cheeses typical of the country.
The Dutch coast is visited mainly by locals , even if it is not impossible to come across foreigners. In addition to the Dutch people also speak English for the most part , most include German and French to get by , which makes communication easy .
