Colombia is located in South America, it shares borders with Panama, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean. The Andes traverses the country from south to north on three different axes. More than half of the country is covered with meadows lying grasses east, jungles and majestic rainforest of the Amazon. Bogota, the capital and largest city of Colombia is located almost in the center of the country. The city is divided between Colombian tradition and Spanish colonial influence. The municipal palace and the cathedral Capitol Plaza Bolivar are attractions of reference. The white sand beaches and modern hotels in Santa Marta are popular with tourists. Local revenues Spanish influence are diverse and delicious. Recommended dishes are ajiaco (stewed chicken with potatoes) and arepas (corn cakes prepared without added salt, which serves as a substitute for bread). Colombian wines are average but it is possible to taste Chilean and Argentinean wines. Operas, ballets, plays and musicals are available at the Colon Theatre in Bogotá; local and international artists perform there.
