Your expedition cruise to Norway and Svalbard begins in Hamburg, a city rich in history, art, and... more+ culture. There’s no shortage of attractions, so take the time to explore a few before boarding your expedition ship.
Don’t miss Hamburg-Altstadt (the Old Town) and its many highlights, starting with St. Nicholas Church and the historic Deichstraße. Take the opportunity to dive into the fascinating history of two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Chilehaus and the world's largest port warehouse complex.

Once on board, you’ll receive your complimentary expedition jacket, meet your expedition team, explore your ship’s comfortable facilities, and settle into your cabin as we set sail.

The first stop on our journey to the Arctic is Esbjerg, on the west coast of the Jutland Peninsula... more+ in Denmark. As you approach the town, look out for the giant "Man Meets the Sea" statues on the shore.
Esbjerg is a blend of historic charm and modern Scandinavian chic, and it’s easy to explore on foot. A shuttle will take you to the center so you can explore at your leisure. Why not treat yourself to a traditional smørrebrød for lunch? The famous Danish open-faced rye bread sandwiches beckon from the windows of many bakeries.

After lunch, it’s time to bid farewell to Denmark and set course for Norway. Take advantage of an afternoon at sea to make the most of your ship’s amenities. Why not relax in the bubbling hot tubs or watch the scenery drift by from the Explorer Lounge & Bar?

Upon arriving in Norway, we will head to the Haugesund region. Known for its Viking connections,... more+ this is where King Harald Fairhair united Norway into a single kingdom. From this royal seat, the kings of Norway long controlled the famous Nordvegen maritime route, or "northern way," which gave the country its name.
Today, this Viking past lives on in the region's many historical sites. If conditions allow, we will visit a reconstructed Viking village on the small island of Bukkøya. Nearby in Karmøy, you can delve into Norway’s maritime and Viking history at the Nordvegen History Centre.

In the morning, we plan to venture into Norway's longest and deepest fjord, the Sognefjord, and... more+ sail to the small hamlet of Fjærland. This idyllic village, with its charming old buildings and traditional weaving, has only 300 inhabitants. It is also where the Sognefjord meets the Jostedal Glacier, the largest glacier on the European mainland.
The day includes a visit to the Norwegian Glacier Museum. There, you will learn why glacier ice is blue and how fjords were formed. You’ll even have the chance to conduct a few experiments with ice from a thousand-year-old glacier and watch a panoramic film about Europe’s most massive glacier.

Nestled at the end of the Romsdalsfjord, the town of Åndalsnes is surrounded by towering... more+ mountains, deep valleys, and spectacular fjords. The landscape around this true alpine town is simply breathtaking.
For a stunning view, take the cable car from the city center for a five-minute panoramic ride to Mount Nesaksla, approximately 700 meters above sea level. From there, enjoy a 360-degree view of the town and, beyond, the imposing mountains of Romsdalshorn and Venjetinden.

To fully immerse yourself in this incredible landscape, join us for an exhilarating hike or, if conditions allow, enjoy a peaceful kayak ride in the fjord.

Sailing towards the wild beauty of the Lofoten Archipelago, enjoy a day at sea.
Continue your... more+ journey aboard with your expedition team by attending a lecture or workshop and deepening your knowledge by visiting the scientific center. Relax in the panoramic Salon & Bar Explorer, and as we pass along Helgeland, keep an eye out for the silhouette of the Seven Sisters mountain range. This impressive coastal range is home to Mount Torghatten, recognizable by its characteristic central hole.

Later in the day, we will cross the Arctic Circle to venture further north into the Arctic.

It has served as a base for many historic expeditions in the Arctic, including those of Roald Amundsen, and its location 400 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle has earned it the nickname "Gateway to the Arctic." At the Polar Museum, you’ll discover the city’s heritage in exploration, and you’ll see the Arctic Cathedral, which, with its massive stained glass window, is one of Tromsø’s most impressive landmarks. You can also take the Fjellheisen cable car to the top of Storsteinen for a breathtaking view.

We may head towards the snow-capped peaks of Hornsund or visit Ny-Ålesund, the starting point for Roald Amundsen’s northern expeditions with the airship "Norge." It has since become an international center for scientific and climate research, but still holds traces of its past.
If luck is on our side, we may even spot the elusive polar bear in its natural environment, so keep your binoculars handy!

The first settlements of this historic village date back to the early Bronze Age. Dive into the rich history of the region at the Nordvegen history center, and on the nearby small island of Bukkøy, discover Viking farmers, fishermen, craftsmen, and merchants in a reconstructed Viking farm.

The landscape of Norway is shaped by its characteristic fjords and glaciers. During this excursion, you will have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of these glaciers and discover one in particular.
