Reykjavik Nuuk
Your day starts early today as we make our way to Reykjavík airport to fly to Nuuk.
Nuuk is... more+ Greenland's colourful and compact capital. With a population of 20,000, it has a striking mix of modern and old buildings. If you prefer the latter, head for the old town along the waterfront. It is home to Nuuk Cathedral and the statue of Hans Egede, perched on a hill. In the water below, admire the magnificent statue of the Mother of the Sea, a striking juxtaposition of the two.
Your expedition ship awaits you in port. You'll be welcomed on board and take off your complimentary expedition jacket, then it's time to settle into your cabin and enjoy your first meal on board.

Nuuk At sea - Greenland
The crossing to the Arctic Circle will be an opportunity to familiarise yourself with AECO's... more+ guidelines and recommendations for operations and landings in the fragile Arctic environment. Be sure to attend these mandatory presentations if you wish to join the planned landings in the Far North.
You'll also have time to settle in on board, take advantage of the ship's state-of-the-art facilities and join in the first lectures on Greenland-related topics, including the participatory science projects carried out on board.
At some point during the voyage, we will cross the Arctic Circle, marking our entry into the territory of the Midnight Sun, in the heart of summer.

At sea - Greenland Disko Bay
Today we enter Disko Bay, a haven for whales and other animals. The waters of the region are dotted... more+ with icebergs of all shapes and sizes that have all drifted from the same place, the icy Ilulissat Fjord. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this spectacular place regularly features among Greenland's must-see sites, and today you'll understand why. Enjoy the scenery as you walk along the wooden footbridge leading to this splendid frozen fjord.
Marvel at the giant icebergs floating peacefully in the deep blue waters that take on different shades of white, grey and blue. Amateur and experienced photographers alike will return to the ship with some enviable shots. Back in the charming town of Ilulissat, visit the Ice Fjord Centre to learn more about the ice in this fascinating region and take a hike to Sermermiut for incredible views.

Disko Bay Uummannaq
It's beyond the Nuussuaq peninsula that distances take on their full meaning, as the region marks... more+ the beginning of Greenland's ‘far north’. At this latitude, life adopts a slower pace. We'll have to make do with the weather and ice conditions, and any attempt to disembark will be subject to the captain's ability to navigate the waterways safely, especially in summer fog. All in all, it's the perfect setting for our expedition.
The beauty of the land and the relative productivity of the environment have attracted visitors since the first settlers arrived over 4,000 years ago. Intriguing archaeological sites reveal without a word the ability of Arctic peoples to thrive in such a hostile environment. It was in this region that the famous Qilakitsoq mummies were discovered.

Here, the key word is ‘splendour’. Disko Bay is one of those places that make people dream. And... more+ rightly so! The deep blue waters are dotted with icebergs of all shapes and sizes. Some are gigantic, weighing up to seven million tonnes. And the icy fjord pumps out more water in the form of ice in a single day than New York City consumes in a year.

Home to some of the country's longest fjords, the central west coast of Greenland is a land of... more+ contrasts, dotted with a myriad of communities, including Greenland's second largest city. The vastness of the territory, however, makes this stretch of coast a sparsely populated region, where huge distances are the norm and a sense of remoteness and isolation is part of everyday life.
