Although it is one of the smallest Canary Islands, La Palma is particularly steep considering its size. A ridge extends from north to south in the center of the island, and the entire mountain range rises above 2,000 meters in altitude.

From the pier, you... more+ will head to the highest point of La Palma, Roque de Los Muchachos, located on the northern slope of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park at an altitude of 2,426 meters. It was declared a national park in 1954 due to its great scientific importance and exceptional wild landscapes.

Wherever you look, the enormous crater of the Caldera de Taburiente will always offer incredible views. This park is home to one of the largest craters in the world, with a circumference of 28,000 meters, a diameter of 9,000 meters, and a depth of 700 meters. It is surrounded by a pine forest, lava flows, and furrows carved by small streams.

Before reaching the summit, you will witness a unique phenomenon known as the "sea of clouds." Each visit to Roque de los Muchachos is different, as the clouds are never the same. A photo stop will be made at the Roque de Los Muchachos viewpoint, where you will enjoy breathtaking panoramas of the impressive Caldera de Taburiente.

Then, you will stop at the Roque de los Muchachos Visitor Center, which is divided into four rooms:

The welcome hall: Here, you will find the reception, the auditorium, the shop, and a large interactive table that will allow you to learn more about the telescopes of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory.
Room 1 – "The Canary Islands: A Window to the Universe": Discover why the Canary Islands were strategically chosen to host some of the world's most important telescopes.
Room 2 – "Exploring the Universe": Delve into the depths of the cosmos, exploring science from all angles and uncovering the mysteries of our universe.
Room 3 – "Back to Earth": This room takes you to the town of Villa de Garafía, where the visitor center is located. You will learn about their traditions, lifestyle, and natural and cultural heritage.
After the visit, you will have free time to explore this exceptional environment before returning to the port.

Roque de los Muchachos is situated at 2,423 meters above sea level, so this excursion is not recommended for people with respiratory or heart conditions. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and warm clothing. Please note that visibility depends on weather conditions. In case of bad weather, the roads leading to Roque de Los Muchachos may be closed.
