Few visitors have the chance to admire its spectacular setting, nestled between Orca Inlet, Hawkins Island, Mount Eccles, Eyak Lake, and the Copper River Delta.
Unfortunately, Cordova is perhaps best known for the catastrophic Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989. Today, after extensive cleanup efforts, its coastline has recovered—a remarkable testament to what can be done to heal damaged ecosystems—and you may spot wildlife such as sea otters, eagles, trumpeter swans, beavers, moose, and bears.

Today, we visit College Fjord, home to five tidewater glaciers, five valley glaciers, and a dozen... more+ other types.
This fjord was discovered in 1899 during the Harriman Expedition. The team members named the glaciers after the universities they had attended, such as Vassar, Harvard, and Yale—deliberately omitting Princeton.

We will safely approach the glaciers as closely as possible, either aboard our small expedition boats or even exploring by kayak if conditions allow. From your watercraft, you may spot humpback whales, bald eagles, sea otters, and sea lions, all thriving in this icy wilderness.
