Esna Luxor
After breakfast on board, transfer by private vehicle with your guide to Luxor to visit the East... more+ Bank, home to the fabulous Karnak temple complex—the largest religious structure ever built—dedicated to the Theban triad led by the god Amun-Ra. Its ancient name, "Ipet-isut," means "the most sacred place." Inside, the majestic hypostyle hall forms a forest of 137 giant columns.
You will then explore the Theban necropolis on the West Bank of the Nile, including the Valley of the Kings, where many pharaohs of the New Kingdom were buried with their families and favored nobles.
Visits continue with the Colossi of Memnon, the last remains of the temple of Amenhotep III, and Deir el-Bahari, the funerary temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Carved into the cliffs of Thebes, this three-terraced temple is both harmonious and innovative. Although dedicated to Amun, it also features chapels to Anubis and Hathor, the protective goddess of women. Fittingly so, as Hatshepsut—one of the few female pharaohs—is considered “the first great woman in history whose name is recorded.”
After the visits, your guide will accompany you to Luxor Airport or your hotel.
