Itinerary

Luxor Esna El Hegz
Meet our guide for a tour of Karnak Temple, renowned for its immense hypostyle hall (134 columns... more+ aligned in 16 rows, alternating between open and closed papyrus-shaped capitals, over 7 meters in diameter).
Transfer to the Left Bank for a visit to the Valley of the Kings, the centerpiece of the sites on this bank. This complex comprises several dozen tombs scattered at the foot of a rocky mountain, chosen for its pyramidal shape.

We then take a 45-minute bus ride to Esna, our home port, an elegant "dahabieh" with double lateen sails, a modern replica of the sacred boats of the pharaohs. Upon arrival on board, the crew gives us a warm welcome: a rose-scented wet towel refreshes us and, as a sign of welcome, we are offered a glass of fresh carcadé (hibiscus flower tea, an Egyptian specialty) or freshly squeezed lemon juice. We enjoyed our drinks on the shaded deck, sitting in deck chairs or reclining on cushions in the shade of stretched canvas, while taking in the scenery along the banks of the Nile.

We explore the boat, its cabins and their comforts (windows, bathroom with sink, shower, private toilet), as well as the tasteful decor that gives them charm and elegance.

At the front, the lounge-library, with its cushioned benches, rugs, and decorative objects, offers an oriental charm, a true invitation to comfortable meditation. We settle into our cabins before our first lunch on board. Our voyage begins...

The afternoon is dedicated to relaxation and contemplation. We arrive at El-Hegz, where the boat anchors at the edge of the sugar cane fields. On the upper deck, we are invited to an Egyptian dinner, carefully prepared by our chef.

Gebel el-Silsila Fawaza Island Bassaw Horemheb Beshir
When we wake up, the landscape has changed.
After breakfast, those who wish to do so can enjoy a... more+ morning swim, a prelude to another day of sailing. Stopover in the small village of Basaw. Untouched by tourism, this place offers a direct and authentic experience, far from any commercial considerations, with its houses decorated with frescoes recounting their owners' journey to Mecca.

Before leaving the village, the crew stocks up on fish such as perch. It is also possible to discover traditional fishing alongside local fishermen in their small boats, tease the Nile perch and its fellow species, learn how to cast a traditional net, tap the surface of the mythical waters, and bring back the fruits of your expedition for lunch on board. Lunch on board while sailing.

At the end of the day, we reach the site of Djebel Silsila, where the Nile narrows to squeeze between steep sandstone cliffs. Throughout the New Kingdom and Greco-Roman periods, thousands of workers mined the quarries of Silsila to extract the sandstone used in the construction of temples.

Our walk along the sandstone cliffs allows us to discover the quarries, dug out with small chapels and shrines dedicated to Horemheb, places of celebration of the Nile. We also reach the large flood steles, majestic witnesses of this era. Dinner and overnight stay on board.

Here you will find mummified crocodiles from the adjacent cemetery, the Egyptian calendar, and surgical instruments displayed on a tray in front of the statue of Imhotep (physician and architect of Djoser's funerary complex), venerated by the Roman emperor Trajan kneeling before him.

After the visit, lunch on board while sailing to the village of Herdiab, one of the few villages on the Nile that still preserves traditional farming methods. Last dinner and night on board.

We then set off to visit the Temple of Philae. Moved by UNESCO between 1972 and 1980 to preserve it from the waters of the Nile, this Greco-Roman temple, located on an island accessible by small boat, was long a place of worship for the goddess Isis. In the early 19th century, following in the footsteps of the first adventurers, Pierre Loti, who nicknamed it "the pearl of Egypt," visited it by dahabieh.
