The Valley of... more+ the Kings, where you will visit two kings’ tombs and one queen’s tomb.
Starting with the 18th Dynasty and throughout the New Kingdom, pharaohs no longer chose to be buried in temples or monuments dedicated to their final journey. It was on the other side of the Nile, on the west bank—the Land of the Afterlife—that Thutmose I and all the pharaohs who succeeded him decided to be buried. Gone were the colossal monuments like the pyramids, or even the mastabas used during the Old Kingdom; instead, there were tombs carved directly into the rock, their entrances meticulously sealed and concealed. The main motivation was undoubtedly to escape tomb raiders.
Stop at the Colossi of Memnon, the only funerary monuments of Amenhotep III. Known for their imposing architecture, these ruins have been visited by emperors and travelers throughout the ages. Standing 18 meters tall and weighing 1,300 tons, they were named the Colossi of Memnon by the Greeks due to the legend of the Oracle of Memnon.

Medinet Habu is the Arabic name for the site that the Egyptians called Djem. The mortuary temple of Ramses III is the finest example of monumental art under the Ramessides. The last great builder of ancient Egypt, the pharaoh undertook the reopening of major construction sites abandoned since the time of Ramses II and built the vast royal temple of Medinet Habu, south of the Theban necropolis. Ramses III had his “Palace of Millions of Years” built—the most significant complex of ancient Egyptian ruins after Karnak—on the site of one of the earliest centers of Theban religion, closely associated with the cult of Amun.

One of the largest and best-preserved temples of ancient Egypt. Built in 237 BC by Ptolemy III and completed 180 years later, in 57 BC, during the reign of Ptolemy XII, on the site of a temple dedicated to Thutmose III (18th Dynasty). It is dedicated to Horus, the falcon-headed god, son of Isis and Osiris.
One enters the temple through the great pylon, decorated with enormous reliefs depicting the king and the gods, leading to the courtyard whose walls depict the various rites performed by the king. Two large black granite falcons, representing the god Horus, guard the temple entrance.

“Two temples united within a... more+ single temple, a unique feature in ancient Egypt”
It was built during the Ptolemaic period (Ptolemaic dynasty, Greco-Roman era) on the site of a New Kingdom temple (dedicated to Thutmose III, 18th Dynasty). It stands atop a hill overlooking the Nile from a height of 15 meters.
Its most striking feature is that it is dedicated to two distinct deities: the falcon god HAROERIS, “HORUS the Great,” sometimes called “HORUS the Elder,” and SOBEK, the crocodile god. Everything in this temple is dual: it has two entrances, two parallel corridors, and rooms symmetrically arranged on either side of these corridors, all converging at the double sanctuary. On the esplanade in front of the entrance, the carved columns reveal shimmering colors. The small building to the right of the entrance is the Chapel of Hathor, which houses several crocodile mummies.

After the construction of the Aswan High Dam by Nasser in the 1960s, the island of Philae, upstream from the First Cataract of the Nile, was completely submerged. Thanks to UNESCO’s support, work was undertaken to dismantle the monuments of Philae piece by piece and reassemble them on the neighboring island, 400 meters downstream. Philae was entirely dedicated to Isis; this temple from the Ptolemaic period (Ptolemaic dynasty, Greco-Roman era) has preserved its Naos, the stone sanctuary that housed the statue of the deity.

It was built to glorify the god Amun-Re, who celebrated the anniversary of his marriage with his wife Mut each year. The procession departed from the Temple of Karnak and followed the banks of the Nile to reach the Temple of Luxor. The construction of the latter dates back to the reigns of the two pharaohs Amenhotep III and Ramses II. Two obelisks adorned the entrance: they were gifted to France in 1831 by Mehmet Ali; one remains in situ, while the other stands in Place de la Concorde in Paris.

Visit to one of the two world-famous temples, both dedicated to the god Amun-Re, the master of the gods and Lord of the Theban Triad: The Temple of Karnak.
The most significant religious complex ever built here over 2,000 years, the faith of the people paid homage to the same god: Amun. The greatest kings (Seti I, Ramses II, Thutmose III, Ramses III) succeeded one another here. The name “Karnak,” meaning “fortress,” dates back to the Islamic conquest.
