Level: Easy • Depth: 30 m • Photo: Wide angle A rare and exceptionally well-preserved site, Gabr El Bint is one of the most attractive dive sites in North Sinai. Accessible only by boat, 4x4, or camel, it is rarely visited, which has allowed the seabed to... more+ remain in remarkable condition.
Its name means "the tomb of the young girl" in Arabic. The site offers two distinct dives, both spectacular. The right side, also known as the dark side, features a steep wall descending to about 60 meters, carved with numerous chasms, sandy ravines, and overhangs. The drop-off is adorned with healthy table corals, creating an impressive backdrop. The left side, much brighter and more colorful, reveals a veritable forest of gorgonians. The dive usually takes place between 20 and 25 meters, along huge rocks emerging from the drop-off, around which dense schools of anthias and glassfish swim. Looking out into the blue, it is common to see trevally chasing schools of fusiliers. After about ten minutes, you will discover some of the healthiest gorgonians in the Red Sea. The ascent is gradual to 10 meters, crossing a saddle before returning along a sandy ledge parallel to the shore.
This ledge is dotted with magnificent coral heads, home to exceptional reef fauna: anthias, scorpionfish, parrotfish, crocodilefish, surgeonfish, triggerfish, trumpetfish, stingrays, and very often a turtle. At the end of the dive, you can usually see a school of black and white snappers, accompanied by twin-spot snappers, swimming between 5 and 10 meters.

An exceptional site, combining spectacular relief, large fauna, and rich reefs.

We will follow this impressive drop-off before ascending towards the plateau in the direction of Yolanda Reef. The coral formations here are sumptuous, covered with alcyonarians and gorgonians. This route offers the opportunity to observe exceptional wildlife: giant moray eels, napoleon fish, turtles, groupers, and a huge school of batfish. The dive ends at the remains of the Cypriot shipwreck Yolanda, which ran aground in 1980. Although the hull has slipped further down the drop-off, part of the cargo—including bathtubs and sanitary ware—remains on the plateau, now colonized by marine life and becoming an iconic underwater scene.
