Aswan Kalabsha Kertassi Beit el Wali
Meet at your hotel around 8:30 AM for your transfer to the boat. Welcome and cabin check-in.

Visit the Temple of Kalabsha, built in the Greco-Roman style with intercolumnar walls and composite capitals. The walls are adorned with bas-reliefs and numerous hieroglyphic texts. The major god Mandoulis is depicted as a falcon, associated with Horus (son of Isis and Osiris).

The Kiosk of Kertassi is part of the remains of a small temple dedicated to Isis. It was likely built during the reign of Trajan (98–117 AD) by the architects of Philae. It retains only four columns with composite capitals and two Hathoric pillars. Its current placement on a slight elevation replicates the effect of its original setting.

Beit el-Wali, a small temple north of the Kalabsha passage, was built under Ramses II. An entrance flanked by two towers leads to a courtyard, then a vestibule, and a sanctuary carved into the rock.

Midway through the navigation, you will pass Ekhtesara, the site of the former gates of Kalabsha. You will continue navigating to dock at the western bank at Garf Hussein by the end of the day.

A unique tour of... more+ these jewels saved from the waters. Accompanied by our guide, you will walk between lake and desert, from one temple to another, until you reach the Temple of Dakka and admire the panoramic view.

The Temple of Wadi es-Sebua: Built between years 35 and 50 of Ramses II’s reign, it is the third hemispeos (rock-cut temple) he built in Nubia. The Temple of Amun, also called "Ramses-Beloved-of-Amun-in-the-Domain-of-Amun," housed the sacred barque during its journey down the Nile. Arabs, inspired by the lion-bodied stone sphinxes lining the central path, named the site Wadi es-Sebua – Valley of the Lions.

The Temple of Maharraqa: This unfinished chapel dates back to the Roman period and is dedicated to the god Serapis and the goddess Isis. Serapis, a Greco-Alexandrian deity, unites the attributes of Osiris and Zeus, symbolizing a fusion between Egyptian and Greek religions. His consort is Isis, and their son is Harpocrates.

The Temple of Dakka: Dedicated to Thoth, divine intelligence, master of science (time and precision), and Lord of Letters. This “divine house” faces north. Its orientation and the bas-reliefs of "the Distant One" allude to the flooding and power of the Nile's annual rise.

Return on board and resume sailing. Tea time will be served on the beach! Overnight at Wadi el Arab.

The visit to the Amada site is particularly rich, especially with the discovery of its temple, which was relocated in a single block during the construction of the dam. Our guide will explain the technique used in detail. Guests will be able to recreate the Abu Simbel miracle in the naos of the Temple of Derr, the "little Abu." At the end of the visit, guests can enjoy a traditional Nubian coffee on site and see a lake crocodile up close.

The Temple of Amada: This temple, dedicated to Amun and Re-Horakhty, was built under Thutmose III and his son, Amenhotep II (sanctuary and vestibule). Thutmose IV added the hypostyle hall, and Seti I built the pylon. Seti I and his son Ramses II later contributed restorations and decorative elements.

The rock-cut Temple of Derr (originally located on the east bank): This 33-meter-long speos was built by Ramses II during the second half of his reign and is dedicated to Amun-Re. Its layout and orientation are identical to those of Abu Simbel, except for the monumental scale and the four colossal statues. Inside the sanctuary, you can see the same seated gods in the niche: Re-Horakhty, the deified Ramses II, Amun-Re, and Ptah.

The funerary chapel of the Viceroy of Nubia, Pennout: "Royal Son of Kush" under Ramses VI (20th Dynasty), Pennout was buried at Aniba, on the west bank opposite Qasr Ibrim. His tomb consists of a single chamber.

You’ll have some free time to enjoy a well-deserved swim! Then, navigation resumes.

Stop near the ruins of the fortress of Qasr Ibrim: This fortified city once stood atop a sandstone plateau on the eastern bank of the Nile, about 80 meters above the river. It overlooked the plain of Aniba (on the west bank), which served as an administrative center and residence of the Viceroys of Nubia under Egyptian rule. Today, the reservoir of the High Dam has submerged about 60 meters of the site’s elevation, and Qasr Ibrim is no longer the imposing stronghold it once was. Located 240 km from Aswan and 50 km from the Sudanese border, Qasr Ibrim was a prominent site in Lower Nubia for over three millennia.
As access to the site is not always possible, our guide will recount its history from the boat deck.

Visit to the Abu Simbel... more+ temple around 3:00 PM. Champollion once said, “This great temple alone is worth the journey to Nubia.” This perfectly sums up the site's magnificence. Guests will learn how the temples were rescued. Our guide will share the story and power of Ramses II, which are impossible to overlook in front of such grandeur. The Great Temple of Abu Simbel, a rock-cut hemispeos, is dedicated to Amun, Ra, Ptah, and deified Ramses II. It features four colossal seated statues on the façade. Originally carved into the cliff at Meha, it was relocated in the 1960s to avoid submersion by Lake Nasser. It now sits beneath an artificial hill recreating its original setting.
