We'll move on to St Agricol street where you'll get to see the diocesan Church, the oldest in the city. We'll then stop by the Place de l'Horloge, which has always been the beating heart of Avignon. Cafés and restaurant terraces are now spread out where the Roman forum once stood. Right across, you will see the walls of the Town Hall and the theater that was built in the 19th century. Departure by coach for an excursion to the Luberon. You will see the village of Gordes, one of “The Most Beautiful Villages in France.” Nestled in the heart of the Vaucluse Mountains and the Luberon Natural Park, Gordes and its château majestically... more+ overlook the valley. You will admire all the features of this perched village, standing above limestone cliffs adorned with dry-stone houses typical of the region. Arrival at the Abbey of Sénanque, a magnificent example of Cistercian art. Founded in 1148 by Cistercian monks from Mazan Abbey in Ardèche, the church was the first building to be constructed, unusually oriented to the north instead of the traditional east. The monastery took around sixty years to complete, using local stone.
Monastic life at Sénanque remains austere, following a rhythm of prayer and work. The monks gather seven times a day to pray and cultivate lavandin. The production of this blue flower is one of the abbey’s trademarks — harvested in July/August to produce essential oil, later used in perfumes, pillow sprays, and other products.

If the abbey visit is unavailable, it will be replaced by a visit to the Lavender Museum:
Located near Gordes, in the heart of the “golden triangle,” the museum is housed in a traditional dry-stone farmhouse and serves as a conservatory for fine Provençal lavender. Over 346 artifacts trace the history of lavender in Provence from the 16th century to today. The tour begins with an introduction to lavender’s history and uses — culinary and medicinal — followed by interactive exhibits on its varieties and distillation process. The visit concludes with a sensory experience where you can smell and test lavender essential oil.

Return to the ship at the end of the visit.
