After crossing the Great Hungarian Plain, you’ll arrive in Pécs, one of Hungary’s most beautiful cities. Located at the foot of the Mecsek Mountains, it charms visitors with its mild climate, southern atmosphere, and rich architectural heritage. Named the European Capital of Culture in 2010, Pécs is home to the magnificent Széchenyi Square, dominated by the Plague Column, as well as its basilica and the former Pacha Qasim Mosque, which was converted into a church while retaining many of its original features. You’ll also discover the famous Zsolnay Fountain, adorned with superb ceramics, before strolling through the lively pedestrian streets of the historic center.
Excursion to the Puszta with Kalocsa:
Discover Kalocsa, Hungary’s first archdiocese, renowned for its cathedral, archbishop’s palace, and rich tradition of craftsmanship. The city is also famous for its paprika, the cultivation of which has contributed to its renown. As you pass through the paprika fields, you’ll reach the vast Puszta, where a traditional farmhouse (Csárda) will welcome you. You’ll visit its horse farm, enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride across the plain, and watch an impressive equestrian show presented by the famous Csikós, the Hungarian horse herders. The excursion ends with a tasting of wine and local specialties, with the opportunity to purchase traditional handicrafts, paprika, wines, and liqueurs.
There will be a short stop in Mohács before continuing your cruise on the Danube.

During a stroll through downtown and the pedestrian zone around Republic Square, you’ll discover the lively daily life of the Serbian capital. The tour also passes by the Royal Palace, City Hall, and Saint Sava Cathedral, one of the largest Orthodox places of worship in the world. The excursion in this Balkan metropolis ends upon your return to the ship.
For those wishing to extend the experience (excursion not included), a traditional Serbian evening is offered. From the Sava River pier, you’ll be taken to a high-quality folk show featuring music, dance, and traditional costumes from all regions of Serbia, as well as from the country’s ethnic minorities. Traveling through Bulgaria’s varied and picturesque landscapes, you’ll reach this seventh-largest city in the country—a transportation hub, industrial center, and cultural hub, featuring a university, scientific institutes, a theater, and an opera house.
The first stop on the excursion is the famous “Pleven Epic” panoramic monument, erected in 1977 to mark the centennial of Bulgaria’s liberation from Ottoman rule. This monument impressively traces the city’s history. You will also discover museums, monuments, and iconic buildings, such as the mausoleum of the Russian and Romanian soldiers who fell in 1877. A roughly one-hour stroll through Pleven’s pedestrian zone will allow you to admire its fountains and landscaped areas, before a break in Kajlaka Park, enlivened by folk performances. The excursion ends with the return to Nikopol, where your ship awaits to continue the voyage.

The fifth-largest city in Bulgaria and the main port on the Danube, Ruse was once known by its Roman name, Sexaginta Prista, meaning “the city of sixty ships.” Its facades harmoniously blend Baroque, Renaissance, and other architectural styles. You’ll begin your tour in the historic center before passing by the train station and heading to the Pantheon, a Christian memorial dedicated to Bulgarian heroes. The itinerary continues to the Alyosha Monument, the concert hall, and Central Square, where you’ll visit the Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral. A stroll through the city center will then allow you to admire the Monument to Liberty, the Opera House, and the Palace of Justice.
Excursion to Veliko Tarnovo:
After a drive through Bulgaria’s picturesque countryside, you’ll arrive in Veliko Tarnovo, the country’s former capital. In the Middle Ages, the city was an important political and cultural center, regarded for more than two centuries by European courts as the “Third Rome” and the “Second Constantinople.” Built on the steep hills of Tsarevets, Trapezitsa, and Momina Krepost, it is home to numerous artisan quarters, churches, monasteries, and traditional houses. After a stroll down Artisans’ Street, you’ll stop for photos on Tsarevets Hill, where the fortress and palace of the Bulgarian tsars once stood. You’ll then continue on to Arbanassi, a charming village nestled in the surrounding hills. As you stroll through its picturesque narrow streets, you’ll discover the Orthodox Church of the Dormition of Christ, famous for its frescoes, wood carvings, and numerous icons. The magnificent 17th- to 19th-century mansions add to the unique charm of this historic village.
