First mentioned in a manuscript in 805, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt surprises visitors with its diversity and rich history spanning more than 1,200 years. You will discover Magdeburg Cathedral and the Notre-Dame cloister, the most remarkable historical monuments of Magdeburg's cultural heritage. You will also see the green citadel and its colorful facade, the market square and the equestrian statue of the Magdeburg horseman, the town hall and its bronze portal. Return on board. Magdeburg Wittenberg
Arrival in Wittenberg early in the morning. Optional excursion: Wittenberg, Luther's city. Depart... more+ for the city center and its beautiful Renaissance-style patrician houses. You will see the town hall, in front of which stand statues of Luther and his disciple Melanchthon. Buildings such as the castle church, considered the heart of the Reformation, Luther's house, and Melanchthon's house are part of the city's heritage. You will visit Martin Luther's house (2), which was his home and workplace for 35 years. Today, it houses the world's largest museum dedicated to the history of the Protestant Reformation. Then, visit the Gothic St. Mary's Church. Further on, you will see the Cranach House, whose portraits are now scattered throughout the world's greatest museums.
Return on board and continue the cruise on the Elbe. A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Elbe marks a unique natural and cultural landscape here, along intact floodplains, white sandy beaches, and wooded peaks. New Year's Eve celebration. Night sailing.

Wittenberg Meissen Dresden
Arrival in Meissen early in the morning. Optional excursion: Meissen and its famous porcelain... more+ factory. This picturesque town is dominated by the 15th-century Albrechtsburg Castle overlooking the Elbe River. Meissen is also known for producing some of the finest German porcelain. You will discover the old quarter, its large square lined with Renaissance houses, the town hall and the Church of Our Lady, both in late Gothic style. Then we will head to the porcelain factory. In 1708, the discovery of a kaolin deposit in Saxony, combined with the ingenuity of alchemist Johann Friedrich Böttger, led to the creation of the first hard-paste porcelain in Europe. The Duke of Saxony, Auguste Lefort, was a great lover of porcelain. Under his leadership, the Meissen stoneware and ceramics factory became, from 1720 onwards, the most astonishing porcelain factory imaginable. A permanent exhibition traces the history of porcelain. Meanwhile, the boat will sail to Dresden, where you will join it.
In the afternoon, optional excursion: Dresden, the "Florence of the Elbe." Your visit will begin with a panoramic tour where you will enjoy a magnificent view of the vast green spaces such as the Grand Garden or the banks and hillsides of the Elbe, the prestigious villas, the large buildings such as the football stadium or the VW factory. Then you will visit the old town on foot, passing by the unmissable Theater Square, where you will appreciate architectural masterpieces in Baroque, Renaissance, and other styles. You will see the Semper Opera House, the magnificent Zwinger, a Baroque-style palace, and the George Tower. Then walk along the Brühl Terrace, nicknamed "the balcony of Europe," lined with exceptional Baroque and Neoclassical architecture overlooking the Elbe along the south bank. Return to the ship. Evening dance.

The play of light and shadow, time and wind change the shapes and constantly reveal new facets. Visit to the Königstein Fortress, a unique example of European fortified architecture. This imposing complex of buildings in the flamboyant Gothic, Baroque, and 19th-century styles is the result of its more than 750 years of history. The ramparts offer beautiful views of the Elbe. Here you'll find architectural gems such as Mírové nám'stí square, lined with original medieval houses, some of which are among the oldest surviving in the Czech Republic. Sailing to Prague. Optional excursion: guided tour of old Prague. You will head to the Old Town... more+ Square with its pretty arcaded houses, now the busiest place in Prague, the statue of Jan Hus, the reformer who was burned at the stake in 1415, the town hall with its famous Astronomical Clock, which displays the 12 apostles every hour, the Church of Our Lady before Týn (exterior), the Ungelt Passage, and the Merchant's Court. You will also see the Municipal House, the city's most beautiful Art Nouveau gem, and finally the Powder Tower, a 75-meter-high Gothic monument that was once used to guard the road to Kutná Hora.
Optional excursion: the Castle District. A symbol of the Czech people's glorious past, Prague Castle is at the heart of the country's political life, as it is the residence of the President of the Czech Republic. Located on a hill overlooking Prague's Old Town and Malá Strana, this monumental complex emerges from a crown of gardens and rooftops and unfurls its long horizontal façade, from which the towers of the cathedral and St. George's Cloister rise. You can admire magnificent churches (St. Vitus Cathedral, Strahov Monastery) and splendid palaces (Cernin, Belvedere). You can then stroll through the historic streets (New World, Golden Lane). Return on board. Gala evening.

You will visit the New Palace in Sanssouci Park. The enormous New Palace is the imposing counterpart to the intimate Sanssouci Palace. Frederick II himself called the New Palace a "show-off." He preferred the intimate Sanssouci and used the magnificent... more+ building as guest accommodation and a setting for lavish celebrations. Comprising three wings, this huge castle is impressive, but the red brick is only painted for cost reasons. Inside, the spacious castle with its 200 rooms, royal apartments, and four galleries is decorated in a cheerful Rococo style. You will visit the most eccentric room, the Grotto Room, decorated with more than 24,000 shells, minerals, fossils, and precious stones, as well as the Marble Gallery with its marble cladding and gilded ceiling paintings, a superb example of Prussian Rococo. Departure by coach to Elbsandsteingebirge: the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. This is a mountain range located on the banks of the Elbe River in Saxon Switzerland (Germany) and Bohemian Switzerland (Czech Republic). The region is known for its surprising sandstone... more+ formations and for the diversity of its flora and fauna, unique among the German low mountain ranges. Crossed by the Elbe, Saxon Switzerland is home to several ruins of buildings constructed to protect trade routes, such as Königstein Fortress and Hohnstein Castle. Some of these buildings later became hideouts for bandits. You will continue with a visit to Königstein Fortress. Built in the 13th and 16th centuries, this fortress crowns Königstein, which dominates the great loop of the Elbe. Enlarged in the 17th and 18th centuries, it served several times as a refuge for the Saxon court. During the festive season, you will discover the beautifully decorated building, with Herrnhut stars symbolizing the Star of Bethlehem, wooden pyramids, candle arches, and a multitude of Christmas figurines. Karel Hynek Mácha, the greatest Czech romantic poet, also succumbed to the charm of Litomerice. A delightful glass at the nearby Velké Zernoseky winery will certainly make your walk through the city all the more pleasant. Allow yourself to be enchanted by the rare architecture of the houses on the squares: the Saxon Renaissance town hall, the "Kalich” House with a roof terrace where the rich townsfolk used to meet over a glass of wine, and the "Cerný orel” House, which has preserved its original appearance with wonderful sgraffito work. There are also countless important churches such as the Gothic Church of All Saints with its Renaissance broach roofs, the Church of the Annunciation of the Lady Mary representing the pinnacle of work by the Italian architect Antonio Octavio Broggio and the Baroque Cathedral of St. Stephen, which was built by Domenico Orsi.
