Itinerary

Sisimiut
We’ll meet at the port of Sisimiut at 4:00 p.m. After a warm welcome, we’ll get to know each... more+ other, go over safety procedures, and settle into life on board. In the evening, we’ll cast off and begin with a few sailing maneuvers and safety drills. We’ll then set sail southward through the night, along the rugged Arctic coastline. Guided by the captain and crew, you’ll become familiar with the watch rotation. As the town fades behind us, we cross the Arctic Circle and celebrate the start of our expedition together. We continue sailing into the evening, covering 77 NM to our first stop.

Sisimiut Fjord Eternity
We arrive in the spectacular Eternity Fjord, where glaciers cascade down steep mountains to the... more+ sea. The fjord is exceptionally long and narrow, making the journey feel as if it lasts forever. We spend the day exploring this wild landscape, sailing deeper into the fjord and stopping for shore excursions. In the evening, we drop anchor in a sheltered cove.

Fjord Eternity Maniitsoq
We continue south to Maniitsoq, which means “irregular place” in Greenlandic; the town is... more+ surrounded by jagged peaks and a maze of islands. Upon disembarking, we explore this remote Arctic town and hike above it to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape; the hikes aren’t long but offer fantastic views. The region is rich in birdlife and marine life and offers a true sense of Greenland’s wild beauty.

Maniitsoq Nuuk
We leave Maniitsoq and sail about 100 nautical miles south toward Nuuk. We follow our watch system... more+ throughout the day, alternating roles between helmsman, navigator, lookout, and sail handler. We chart our course and plot our position on the map, making course adjustments and changing sails. Whether it’s tacking, jibing, or taking in a reef, everyone plays an active role in sailing the boat.
Upon arriving in the capital region, we anchor off the coast of the old town and head ashore in the dinghy. The contrast between the wilderness and Greenland’s largest city becomes apparent as we prepare to explore the surroundings the next day. It’s also possible to visit the local hunters’ market. On our last visit, we were able to buy some delicacies from the hunters. We hope to meet locals for a Kaffemik to learn more about their way of life and culture.

Nuuk At sea
We leave Nuuk and begin our longest offshore crossing of the voyage, sailing about 150 nautical... more+ miles south toward Paamiut.
By now, the watch system is running smoothly and the crew is well-trained. Movement on deck is more confident, sail handling is more efficient, and communication is clearer and more instinctive. What seemed new at the start of the expedition is beginning to become routine.
We continue day and night, alternating watches and maintaining a steady rhythm on board. Time off watch is devoted to rest, while during the watch the focus is on steering, navigation, sail trimming, and keeping watch. Responsibility is shared, and the boat is sailed together as a team. Small adjustments to the sails and course are becoming more precise, and the boat is moving forward more efficiently.
As we sail along Greenland’s exposed coastline, we may encounter stronger winds and swells, which add to the challenge. Seabirds follow in our wake, and with a bit of luck, whales may appear alongside us.
By the end of this crossing, the experience of offshore sailing, standing watch, and life on board has become second nature, and the sense of working together as a crew is well established—which in itself brings a sense of accomplishment.
