Itinerary

Itinerary
Reykjavik Nuuk
Your day starts early today as we make our way to Reykjavík airport to fly to Nuuk.
Nuuk is... more+ Greenland's colourful and compact capital. With a population of 20,000, it has a striking mix of modern and old buildings. If you prefer the latter, head for the old town along the waterfront. It is home to Nuuk Cathedral and the statue of Hans Egede, perched on a hill. In the water below, admire the magnificent statue of the Mother of the Sea, a striking juxtaposition of the two.
Your expedition ship awaits you in port. You'll be welcomed on board and take off your complimentary expedition jacket, then it's time to settle into your cabin and enjoy your first meal on board.

Nuuk At sea - Greenland
The crossing to the Arctic Circle will be an opportunity to familiarise yourself with AECO's... more+ guidelines and recommendations for operations and landings in the fragile Arctic environment. Be sure to attend these mandatory presentations if you wish to join the planned landings in the Far North.
You'll also have time to settle in on board, take advantage of the ship's state-of-the-art facilities and join in the first lectures on Greenland-related topics, including the participatory science projects carried out on board.
At some point during the voyage, we will cross the Arctic Circle, marking our entry into the territory of the Midnight Sun, in the heart of summer.

At sea - Greenland Disko Bay
Today, we enter Disko Bay, a refuge for whales and other animals. The waters of the region are... more+ dotted with icebergs of all shapes and sizes, all of which have drifted from the same place, the frozen Ilulissat Fjord. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this spectacular place is regularly ranked among Greenland's must-see sites, and today you will understand why. Enjoy the scenery as you walk along the wooden walkway that leads to this splendid ice fjord. Marvel at the giant icebergs floating peacefully in the deep blue waters that take on different shades of white, gray, and blue. All photographers, whether amateur or seasoned, will return to the ship with shots that will be the envy of others. Back in the charming town of Ilulissat, visit the Icefjord Center to learn about the ice in this fascinating region, then hike to Sermermiut for incredible views.

Disko Bay Uummannaq
The Far North of Greenland begins beyond the Nuussuaq Peninsula, where the Arctic imposes its... more+ gentle rhythm, at the mercy of the elements. This magnificent wilderness has attracted humans for over 4,000 years. The first settlers forged a life there in conditions that few could have endured. Today, the region's archaeological sites, such as the famous Qilakitsoq mummies, are silent testimonies to their resilience. Landings may include visits to small communities such as Uummannaq, dominated by its striking heart-shaped mountain, or Ukkusissat. Weather and ice conditions permitting, we will explore the Qilakitsoq site, sail through remote fjords, or go ashore to admire Greenland's raw Arctic landscapes, all while adapting to the laws of nature.

Uummannaq Disko Bay
Splendor and majesty are among the words that will come to mind when you see Disko Bay, a... more+ destination that so many adventurers dream of visiting. Its deep blue waters are dotted with icebergs of all sizes, some weighing up to 7 million tons! There is more water in the icebergs produced every day by the frozen fjord than the city of New York consumes in a year. Our exploration of the region will combine traditional communities, massive glaciers, and wilderness as far as the eye can see. Over the next few days, we will introduce you to the wonders of the bay, including Vaigat Strait, Disko Island, and the eastern fjords. We will, of course, bow to the will of nature and adapt to weather and ice conditions. On the agenda: landings aboard our expedition boats, outings amid the ice floes and icebergs, whale watching from the ship's deck, and lectures by the expedition team. The landings will be an opportunity to encounter herds of reindeer, agile Arctic foxes, and the impressive gyrfalcon.
Included activities: Whale watching, Zodiac expeditions, more+

Disko Bay West Greenland
The central west coast of Greenland is a land of contrasts, offering some of the country's largest... more+ fjords, but also the island's second largest city. However, due to the vastness of the territory, this part of the coastline is sparsely populated, and daily life is characterized by isolation and long journeys. On our way south, we will visit communities that are ambassadors of Greenlandic traditions. We will be able to disembark at Qeqertarsuaq, the main municipality on Disko Island, or at Itilleq, a small fishing and hunting village just north of the Arctic Circle. Greenland's second largest city, Sisimiut, awaits us a little further north. Beneath its modern exterior lies a history and heritage dating back more than 4,000 years. A visit to the local museum will introduce you to the ancient Saqqaq culture. And if you need to warm up, you can buy a scarf, hat, or mittens made from qiviut, a type of wool from musk oxen that is very soft and ten times warmer than sheep's wool. Hiking on land, meeting Greenlanders, or observing wildlife... these last few days will bring your Arctic expedition to a beautiful close.
Included activities: A walk to discover Sisimiut, A day exploring the Evighet fjord, more+

If you have time before your flight home, explore this fascinating window on modern Greenland. From here, you'll fly back to Reykjavík, after an adventure full of memories you won't soon forget.
