Reykjavik
Reykjavik, or “the Bay of Smoke”, was named in 874 by the first Scandinavian settler, Ingolfur... more+ Arnarson, after the vapors from the hot springs. Iceland's capital is home to almost 70% of the island's population. It is the northernmost capital in the world. Despite its late development in the 19th century, the city has no old buildings, but beautiful, colorful houses that are immediately charming. A city on a human scale, it's a pleasure to stroll through its streets. From here, you can head for the Golden Circle, which groups together three exceptional natural sites: Gullfoss waterfalls, the Geysir spa area and Thingvellir, the Parliament Valley. Free time or optional excursions. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board.
Optional excursions:
The Golden Circle (full day with lunch):
En route to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thingvellir is surrounded by mountains encircling a vast lavic plain of wild vegetation. Icelanders consider it a sacred place. We then discover Gullfoss Falls, also known as the “Golden Falls”, one of the most beautiful in Europe. This double cascade, often haloed by a rainbow, plunges into an abyss some 32 m below. The tour continues to Grand Geysir, which gave its name to all the world's geysers. Although it hardly raises its mountain of water any more, the site is grandiose for all the other volcanic phenomena to be observed: solfataras, fumaroles, bubbling mud springs and geysers gushing out in profusion. Full day with lunch - Price per person (from): €185
Historic Reykjavik: Short panoramic tour and discovery of the Arbaer open-air museum. The museum features some 20 buildings, most of them relocated from central Reykjavik in order to preserve the city's architectural and historical heritage. Continue to Perlan Dome, with its magnificent view over the city, before visiting the National Museum. It traces the history and customs of Iceland from the Viking settlements to the present day. Finally, a visit to the old town and the Hallgrimskirkja church. Half day - Price per person (from): €130
Bathing in the Blue Lagoon or Sky Lagoon: A true tradition in Iceland, bathing in hot springs is deeply rooted in local culture. The geothermal baths of the Sky Lagoon and the famous Blue Lagoon are renowned for their therapeutic benefits and offer a unique and relaxing environment. Availability and prices on request.
Volcanism from the sky: Take a helicopter flight over the region and discover the volcanic landscape from the air. Flight time: approx. 40 to 60 min. Availability and prices: please contact us.
