A labyrinth of narrow streets, stepped passages, and small squares, the city has attracted many civilizations over the centuries. It is home to Greek theaters and a gymnasium, a Roman odeon and baths, Arab-Norman buildings, traces of Byzantine rule, and villas that belonged to European aristocracy in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Your excursion will begin with a walking tour of the historic city center. You will stroll along Corso Umberto Street and discover numerous monuments from various eras. Highlights include the Catania Gate, the cathedral, the Piazza IX Aprile, and the Palazzo Corvaja, before heading to the ancient theater.
The ancient theater was built in the 3rd century BC by the Greeks and later almost entirely rebuilt by the Romans, who turned it into an arena for gladiatorial combat. It is considered the second-largest theater in Sicily after Syracuse. Thanks to its size and excellent acoustics, the theater still hosts numerous festivals and concerts today. Spectators, seated on the stone tiers, can enjoy performances while admiring views of the sea, Mount Tauro, and Mount Etna.

The city of Lecce has earned many accolades for its beauty and its architectural and historical treasures. This unique stone, when exposed to sunlight, takes on a warm honey-like hue.

Situated in the heart of the Salento region, Lecce dates back to Roman times. Today, visitors can admire the Roman amphitheater in Piazza St. Oronzo (from the outside), which was constructed in the 2nd century AD and could accommodate up to 20,000 spectators. In this arena, gladiators once fought wild animals.

From the quay, board your coach for a one-hour journey to Lecce, where your walking tour of the old town begins. Explore the city center with your guide and discover a remarkable architectural style known as "Barocco Leccese." Between the 16th and 18th centuries, Lecce experienced a golden age, during which it was adorned with Rococo and Baroque monuments. The finely grained local limestone was particularly easy to carve, encouraging the creation of a rich decorative style with intricate, easily recognizable details.

During the tour, you will marvel at the Basilica of Santa Croce, adorned with opulent decorations. Nearby, you will admire the impressive façade of the Governor’s Palace (formerly a monastery of Celestine monks). It was performed by orchestras made up of a variety of instruments, among which the tambourine and violin stood out for their rhythmic and melodic characteristics.

Next, incorporated into the city's eastern walls, you will discover the Dominican Monastery, more modest than the previous one, and its museum featuring a fine collection of Renaissance paintings, including a triptych by Nikola Bozidarevic depicting Dubrovnik before the earthquake, and a painting of Saint Magdalene and Saint Blaise by Titian.

From the quay, follow your guide on a delightful walk through the narrow streets of Hvar, the most important town on the island. You will visit the Franciscan Monastery, dating back to the 15th century. The cloister, with its rounded arches and a well in the center, dominates the Renaissance-style monastery complex. The former spacious refectory and an adjacent small room have been transformed into a museum. The collection includes ancient books, coins, and the famous depiction of The Last Supper, a work from the Venetian school of Palma il Giovane dating back to the late 16th century. These elements in the refectory attract many visitors.
After crossing the main square, you will pass by St. Stephen's Cathedral (exterior visit). It was built in several stages during the 16th and 17th centuries, with the interior completed in the 18th century. The exterior is Renaissance, while the interior is Baroque.
Next, you will visit the Benedictine Monastery, which houses a beautiful collection of lace made from agave leaves.

The highlight of your visit will undoubtedly be the Church of St. Euphemia, Rovinj’s prestigious treasure dating back to the 8th century. Its bell tower, rising 63 meters above the center of the town, is the most prominent symbol of the Istrian region.

Built on the ruins of a Romanesque church and remodeled in the 16th century in the Baroque style, the building houses the relics of St. Euphemia. Brought from Constantinople in the 9th century, they are preserved in a marble sarcophagus. The saint’s tragic fate and martyrdom are illustrated on a mural fresco. Every year on September 16, many faithful gather around the tomb.

The church also contains other valuable works of art, including Gothic statues from the 15th century and paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, such as *The Last Supper* and *Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane*.

Ston was built according to plans approved by the Dubrovnik government in 1335 and modified in 1370, and is considered one of Europe’s best-planned... more+ and most structured cities. The city walls are a true feat of architecture and construction. Originally 7,000 meters long, they are divided into several sections: the city walls of Ston, the city walls of Mali Ston, and the great wall with its three forts. Its forts and towers are reinforced by 10 round towers, 31 square corner towers, and six semicircular bastions. It took almost four centuries to complete these complex defensive walls, as builders had to adapt to the difficult terrain and advancements in warfare technology. The walls were last used for defensive purposes in the 19th century and are now an invaluable monument due to their architectural and cultural significance.
Upon arrival at the walls of Ston, you'll begin your hike of nearly 900 meters over rugged terrain with more than 250 steps to climb to reach the town of Mali Ston, Croatia’s "oyster capital."
Once you arrive in Mali Ston, you'll board a local boat that will take you to the oyster beds and mussel bouchots. Your host will welcome you aboard and introduce you to the oyster and mussel farming in the area. You will have the opportunity to learn about the production and taste freshly prepared oysters and mussels, including mussels in Buzara sauce (cooked with wine, garlic, and olive oil).
Finally, you'll return to your coach for a one-hour drive back to Dubrovnik along the historic road through the coastal villages of Dubrovnik, a region called Dubrovacko Primorje.
This excursion involves a hike and includes approximately 3 km of walking on uneven and steep terrain with over 250 steps.
