Departing from Empedocles's port, you'll feel the refreshing sea breeze as you gaze out over the Mediterranean. As you venture inland, the journey takes you through picturesque rural landscapes, quaint villages, and lush olive groves and vineyards that are characteristic of this part of Sicily.
Your first stop is the Valley of the Temples (Valle dei Templi), Agrigento's most famous archaeological treasure and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This vast park showcases some of the most impressive ancient Greek ruins in the world. As you stroll through the Valley, you'll marvel at the towering temples and learn about the history of this sacred site, which dates to the 5th century BCE.
