Monacobreen Hinlopen Strait Nordaustlandet
This day of exploration takes you to the spectacular Hinlopen Strait and the remote landscapes of... more+ the Northeast Land. The cruise allows you to discover Murchison Fjord, known for its former research station dating back to 1958 as well as for its colonies of walruses resting on the Arctic shores. Further on, the impressive cliffs of Alkefjellet offer one of the archipelago’s most striking natural spectacles. Nestled within this spectacular landscape of basalt columns and jagged peaks lies one of Svalbard’s largest bird colonies: nearly 250,000 guillemots and black-legged kittiwakes gather there each year in an incredible burst of wild energy. Between glaciers, volcanic cliffs, and abundant Arctic wildlife, this region reveals all the power and raw beauty of the Far North.

Nordaustlandet
For several days, the expedition continues into the heart of the vast wilderness of the Northeast... more+ Territory, a fascinating polar region dominated by ice and extreme landscapes. This region is home to immense ice caps covering more than 11,000 km² as well as the largest ice shelf in the Northern Hemisphere, stretching nearly 160 kilometers. Amid cold deserts, mineral-hued cliffs, rocks sculpted by the elements, and gigantic icebergs drifting in the fjords, the panoramas here are strikingly beautiful. The region is also the realm of walruses and polar bears, many of which roam these remote and still largely unexplored lands.

Depending on ice conditions, the itinerary may take you through the spectacular Wijdefjord, dominated by peaks rising over 1,700 meters, or the Sorgfjord, famous for being the site of the first polar naval battle between the French and the Dutch in 1693. The voyage may also follow the eastern and southern coasts of Spitsbergen, offering a total immersion in the world of the Far North. Ice conditions permitting, the expedition will attempt to reach the legendary White Island, 99% covered in ice and known for its exceptional Arctic wildlife, where polar bears and walruses are regularly spotted. This place steeped in history also preserves the memory of Andrée’s tragic expedition, making this island a true symbol of great polar explorations.

The region also offers numerous opportunities to observe Arctic wildlife: walruses resting on the shores, seals swimming in the icy waters, and, occasionally, the discreet presence of polar bears roaming these wild landscapes.
