Itinerary

Oslo
Your expedition begins in Oslo, Norway's capital, perched on the edge of a fjord. If you have the... more+ time, why not explore the city centre at your leisure?
With its rich history and vibrant art scene, Oslo is a fascinating city. You'll find museums, galleries and remarkable architecture, including the majestic Opera House and the new Munch Museum.
Stroll through the Ekebergparken sculpture park, visit the Akershus fortress or relax in a floating sauna. Explore the modern district of Sørenga and enjoy its urban beach life or discover the new Nordic cuisine before spending the night at the hotel, close to Oslo airport.

Oslo Longyearbyen
After an early morning flight from Oslo, your adventure will begin with two nights in the... more+ northernmost city in the world. A colorful frontier settlement with more snowmobiles than inhabitants, Longyearbyen is a unique place on the edge of the Arctic wilderness.

You will spend the next two and a half days exploring Longyearbyen and its surroundings. The town is perfect for walking: stroll along the main street, where you might spot a wandering Svalbard reindeer. But don't worry—though wild, this animal is very curious and unafraid of humans.

To give you a better insight into the area, local guides will accompany you on an electric bike tour to introduce you to the historical context of the town on the roof of the world.

Longyearbyen
You will leave the town via a dirt road that will take you to Hotellneset, where you will discover... more+ a lake and remnants of the region's mining past. The very first hotel in Svalbard was built here by Richard With, the founder of Hurtigruten, even before the town we see today was constructed.
We will then return to Longyearbyen via the "Burma Road," an old major route for transporting coal from the port, offering breathtaking views. Along the way, we will admire an old cableway, the Svalbard Church, and the ruins of Longyearbyen's first settlement, bombed during World War II.
We will continue to the steep cliffs of Plateau Mountain, passing by the cemetery and the iconic Huset, a building that has served as a cinema, bar, school, and church over the years. Finally, we will head to Coal Miners’ Cabins, originally the miners’ residence, where we will enjoy a relaxed lunch before concluding our visit and returning to the hotel. To give you a better insight into the area, local guides will accompany you on an electric bike tour to introduce you to the historical context of the town on the roof of the world.

Longyearbyen Ny Alesund
Today, you will discover the serenity of Ny-Ålesund and the surrounding fjords, including... more+ Krossfjord and Kongsfjord. Enjoy a true day of rest, as the proximity to the geodetic station of the Norwegian Mapping Authority requires us to disconnect Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Ny-Ålesund, one of the northernmost settlements in the world and a former mining town, was the starting point for Roald Amundsen’s expeditions to the north aboard his airship Norge. Today, it has become an international center for scientific and climate research but has preserved remnants of its past.
Exploring the fjords around Ny-Ålesund will immerse you in breathtaking icy landscapes. Adventure awaits as we seize every opportunity to launch our small expedition boats, go ashore for a hike, or navigate along majestic glaciers.

Ny Alesund North West National Park
Over the next few days, you will explore the natural beauty and raw tundra of the Northwest... more+ Spitsbergen National Park. In this wild expanse dotted with steep mountains, austere glaciers, and magnificent islands, we will search for Arctic wildlife: whales, seals, walruses, and reindeer. If we are truly fortunate, we might even spot the elusive polar bear from the ship's observation deck. In the stunning Kongsfjord region, you may witness majestic glaciers calving chunks of ice into the sea.

North West National Park The ice edge
If the ice conditions allow, we will sail north and cross the 80th parallel to explore the ice edge... more+ and its ever-changing landscape. The transition zone between the ice cap and the sea is as magical as it is fleeting, with waters scattered with pack ice and drifting icebergs. From our ship, you may spot seals and walruses basking on the glistening ice. If conditions permit, we will launch our expedition boats for an unforgettable experience up close with the floating ice.

The ice edge
The ice edge is not a fixed boundary: it shifts with the seasons and weather, so this visit is not... more+ guaranteed despite our efforts. In summer (from May to August), it retreats further towards the pole, potentially putting it out of our reach. In that case, we will explore the deep fjords, powerful glaciers, and enchanting landscapes of the Spitsbergen coast, which are equally impressive. Between late July and early August, wildflowers bloom, covering the landscape in a burst of colors.

The ice edge Spitsbergen
At this stage of your journey, you can expect anything. Pure adventure continues. Ice conditions on... more+ the sea permitting, we'll continue eastwards to discover the wilderness of north-east Spitsbergen, before heading south to attempt a complete circumnavigation of the archipelago.

Spitsbergen
Perhaps we'll set course for the immense Bråsvellbreen glacier to admire the waterfalls that... more+ plunge into the icy depths, or take our expedition boats down around Kvitøy. Every day in the east will be a new opportunity to look for polar bears roaming the ice. Further south, we can aim for Freemansundet and Kapp Lee, or take our small expedition boats to Edgeøya or Barentsøya.

Your expedition team will therefore determine the best exploration opportunities for the day.
