Itinerary

Tromso
Your Nordic adventure begins in the Arctic capital, Tromsø. Once you've made your own way to your... more+ hotel, you can enjoy the rest of the day or evening as you wish.

Often referred to as the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’, Tromsø is an urban centre brimming with restaurants, trendy cafés, craft shops and local produce. Located around 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, the city is usually covered in a blanket of snow in spring and winter. The surrounding landscapes take on an enchanting air.

Directly beneath the auroral zone, Tromsø is a prime location for observing the Northern Lights in autumn, winter and spring. Don't forget to look up to the sky when you take your first night-time walk in Norway.

*Please note that if you book less than 90 days before your chosen departure date, your trip will start on day 2 in Tromsø.

Tromso
After breakfast in your hotel, you can set off to explore Tromsø. On the waterfront you'll find... more+ Polaria, the world's most northerly aquarium, while across the fjord from the harbour stands the iconic Arctic Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece with a magnificent mosaic of stained glass windows.

To admire the city from above, take the funicular to the top of Storsteinen, 420 metres above sea level. From the observation platform at the top station, you can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Tromsø and the surrounding islands, mountains and fjords.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred from your hotel to the ship, your accommodation for the coming week. Once you have checked into your cabin or suite, you will meet your guide team. You'll get to know each member of the team, who will give lectures and organise activities on board throughout your voyage.

On the ship, enjoy a drink in the split-level Bar 1893 and get to know your fellow passengers as we head south.

Tromso Stokmarknes Svolvaer
After your first night on board, we explore Lofoten, a stunning archipelago of islands jutting out... more+ of the Norwegian Sea. As soon as you see the towering peaks towering around you and the fishing villages clinging to their flanks, you'll understand why this string of islands is so often regarded as one of Norway's most dazzling sights.

Leaving the region without a stopover in Stokmarknes is unthinkable. This historic town is part of the Vesterålen Islands, an archipelago just north-east of Lofoten. And of all the places we visit, this one is particularly dear to our hearts. It was here that the Norwegian Coastal Express was founded in 1893.

The Coastal Express quickly became a vital link for remote coastal communities and the legacy has been appropriately immortalised in the place where it all began. On the waterfront, you'll discover our 1956 vessel, housed in a glass case like a ship in a bottle.

This is the Hurtigrutemuseet, the museum that traces its history as Norway's first expedition cruise line from its beginnings to the present day. A guided tour will allow you to explore this ancient ship and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a bygone era.
We dock in the town of Svolvær in the afternoon. Located on the island of Austvågøya, in the heart of the Lofoten Islands, Svolvær is the largest town in the archipelago. It has many restaurants, shops, galleries and cafés. You can also admire the panorama offered by the Svolvær goat, a nearby mountain that owes its name to its resemblance to a horned goat.

A number of optional excursions are available from Svolvær, including a winter fishing trip, a kayak trip along the coast or a bus tour exploring the history of Lofoten.

Duration of stopover: 3h30 at Stokmarknes and 3h00 at Svolvaer

Optional services: Visit to the Hurtigruten Museum, Excursions in Svolvaer, more+

Svolvaer Bronnoysund
Surrounded by islands and water, Brønnøysund lies on a narrow peninsula jutting out from the... more+ mainland. Around 5,000 people live in this small town, most of them in colourful houses set against a backdrop of gentle slopes and spectacular mountain peaks.

Soak up the lively atmosphere of the harbour and stroll along Havnegata. Stop off at one of the pubs for a bite to eat, or treat yourself to a real meal in a local restaurant. Stroll around the visitors' marina or explore a neo-Gothic stone church dating from 1870.

Don't miss the Vega archipelago, comprising some 6,500 islands, islets and reefs. The island of Gardsøy is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Centre where the secrets of harvesting the precious eiderdown are explained, thanks to the installation of small huts where the local ducks make their nests.

On an island south of Brønnøysund, you'll find Torghatten mountain, recognisable by the natural tunnel that runs through its centre. According to local legend, the hole is the result of an arrow shot by a troll at a young woman who rejected his advances. As the king of the trolls threw down his hat to protect her, the sun rose, turning the hat into stone with a hole in the middle caused by the arrow.
By taking part in an optional excursion, you can reach the hole in the mountain in an hour on foot. Look through the tunnel and enjoy the view of the surrounding islands.

Duration of stopover in Brønnøysund: 5h00

Bronnoysund Alesund
After a hearty breakfast on board, we dock mid-morning in Ålesund, a town stretching across a... more+ string of islands.

As you approach the shore, the first thing you'll notice is the distinctive style of its architecture. Every detail of the buildings, from the bright colours to the rounded spires, was inspired by the Art Nouveau style popular in the early 1900s. Almost the entire city was renovated in this style when it was rebuilt after a major fire in 1904.

Leaving the quays behind, you'll enter a city worthy of fairytales, venturing down narrow streets lined with inimitable houses. If you still have enough space left on your camera's memory card, you can take some impressive shots of the archipelago from the viewpoint of Mount Aksla. The 418 steps leading up to it may seem intimidating, but the view from the top is well worth the effort.

You can also visit Atlantic Sea Park, Norway's first Marine Science Centre. It is one of the largest saltwater aquariums in Northern Europe. It is home to seals, otters and crabs, as well as many other marine species. You can even see Humboldt penguins, a species not found north of the equator.

Alesund Hardangerfjord Haugesung
As we head south along Norway's west coast, we'll make a short, scenic crossing of one of Norway's... more+ most impressive waterways, Hardangerfjord.

This 179-kilometre fjord is the second longest in the country and the fifth longest in the world. Let yourself be transported by the mountains that surround you, while the white peaks that dominate the fjord are reflected in the shimmering water at their foot.

We reach Haugesund, the ‘Home of the Viking Kings’, in the afternoon. This nickname is inspired by sites such as St Olav's Church, built in 1250 by King Håkon Hå. You'll also discover Haraldshaugen, a national monument reputed to be the burial place of the first king.

And when you visit the Nordvegen History Centre, you will travel back in time to the Viking Age in the company of a fictional Harald I??, who will introduce you to the various exhibitions on offer to the public.

You can spend the day or evening as you wish. With its forest-covered hills, lakes and countless world-class restaurants and museums, Norway's fjord-side capital has everything to delight visitors.
