A colorful frontier settlement with more snowmobiles than inhabitants, Longyearbyen is a unique place at the edge of the wild Arctic nature. If you have some time, take the opportunity to explore it before enjoying a free and peaceful evening.

After breakfast, it's time to explore Longyearbyen, which is ideal for a walking tour. Stroll along... more+ the main street, where you might spot a wandering reindeer from Spitsbergen. This wild animal is very curious and not afraid of humans.

Before boarding the ship in the afternoon to continue your Arctic exploration, take part in an included excursion and be amazed by this stunning region inspired by polar bears at the top of the world. Longyearbyen Hornsund
Your expedition cruise continues south to Hornsund, one of the most beautiful fjords in... more+ Spitsbergen. Rich and colorful vegetation gives way to towering mountains lining this waterway. Step out onto the deck to spot seals and whales, Mount Hornsundtind, and glaciers flowing into the sea.

We will then head towards Bellsund and its cliffs, which are home to large colonies of puffins,... more+ guillemots, and northern fulmars, as well as Arctic foxes and Spitsbergen reindeer below. Look out for the remnants of the first mining communities and learn about Wanny Woldstad, the first female trapper.

Our activities will depend on the weather conditions in Hornsund and Bellsund. Your expedition team will determine the best exploration opportunities for the day.

Bellsund North West National Park
On our way to the Nordvest-Spitsbergen National Park, we will sail through the Magdalenefjorden to... more+ Sørgattet, which is the southern entrance to the Smeerenburgfjorden. The Midnight Sun gives us plenty of time to explore the breathtaking landscapes of this region.

The next few days will be an opportunity to explore the natural beauty and tundra of this stunning park. This wild expanse, with its steep mountains, austere glaciers, and magnificent islands, is home to many of the Arctic's iconic animals, including seals, walruses, and reindeer. At this time of year, much of the shore ice has melted, allowing us to venture into areas otherwise inaccessible.

It is also whale season in the archipelago. We will be on the lookout for humpback whales, blue... more+ whales, and sperm whales. There is also a good chance we will spot polar bears, iconic yet elusive predators. Be amazed by the majestic glaciers and learn about the history of the local whalers. Look up to the cliffs' summit and spot thousands of Arctic birds, such as little auks, Arctic terns, skuas, eider ducks, and brent geese.

Each day will be unique. Landings, kayaking trips, and many adventures await you! The captain and the expedition leader will determine the best sites and activities based on the day's conditions.

North West National Park The ice edge
If the ice conditions allow, we will sail north and cross the 80th parallel to explore the ice edge... more+ and its ever-changing landscape. The transition zone between the ice cap and the sea is a magical yet fleeting place, with waters covered in pack ice and drifting ice floes. From our ship, you may spot seals and walruses lounging on the sparkling ice. If conditions permit, we will launch our expedition boats for an unforgettable experience up close to the floating ice.

The ice edge is not a fixed boundary: it moves with the seasons and the weather, meaning this visit is not guaranteed, despite our efforts. In summer (from May to August), it retreats further toward the pole, which may put it beyond our reach. In such cases, we will explore the deep fjords, powerful glaciers, and enchanting landscapes of the Spitsbergen coast, equally impressive. Between late July and early August, the wildflowers bloom, covering the landscape in a burst of color.

The ice edge Ny Alesund
Today, you will discover the serenity of Ny-Ålesund and the surrounding fjords, including... more+ Krossfjord and Kongsfjord. Enjoy a true day of rest, as the proximity of the Norwegian Mapping Authority's geodetic station requires us to cut Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Ny-Ålesund, one of the northernmost settlements in the world and a former mining town, was the starting point for Roald Amundsen's expeditions north, aboard his airship "Norge." It has since become an international center for scientific and climate research but has preserved the remnants of its past.

Exploring the fjords surrounding Ny-Ålesund will immerse you in stunning icy landscapes. Adventure awaits as we seize every opportunity to launch our small expedition boats, disembark for a hike, or sail along the majestic glaciers.
