Isafjordur Reykjavik
Reykjavik, or "the bay of smokes," was named in 874 by the first Scandinavian settler, Ingolfur... more+ Arnarson, upon seeing the steam rising from hot springs. Iceland's capital gathers nearly 70% of the island's population and is the northernmost capital city in the world. Despite a late 19th-century development, the city lacks ancient buildings but boasts charming, colorful houses that immediately captivate. With its human-scale size, Reykjavik invites leisurely strolls through its streets. From here, you can venture to the Golden Circle, which encompasses three exceptional natural sites: the Gullfoss waterfalls, the geothermal area of Geysir, and Thingvellir, the Parliamentary Plains. Free time or optional excursions. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on board.
Optional excursions:
The Golden Circle
Head towards Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Surrounded by mountains, Thingvellir features a vast lava plain with wild vegetation and is considered sacred by Icelanders. Next, explore Gullfoss Falls, also known as "Golden Falls," among Europe's most stunning. This double waterfall often shimmers with rainbows as it plunges 32 meters into a gorge. Continue to the Great Geysir, lending its name to all geysers worldwide. Though it no longer spouts a water mountain, the site remains grandiose with numerous volcanic phenomena to observe: solfataras, fumaroles, bubbling mud pots, and plentiful geysers.
