The Alonissos National Marine Park 

Created in 1992 to ensure the protection of the Mediterranean monk seal, classified as "at risk of extinction" since 1986, the National Marine Park covers about 2,250 km2 in the Aegean Sea. It is composed of a group of seven islands and is divided into three different areas. Despite the strictly protected areas, in some areas you can swim, dive and maybe meet one of the many species of the Park: dolphins, sperm whales, turtles, fish and if you are lucky you could meet the famous monk seal.

The most beautiful beaches of the island

On the island of Alonissos there are several beaches, most of them with white pebbles and all absolutely paradisiacal! Often hidden behind pine and olive forests, the beaches of Alonissos are made up of golden sand and stunning cliffs bathed by turquoise water. The waters of the region also protect real hidden treasures, including many wrecks of pirate ships. Among the most beautiful beaches on the island you can find Kokkinokastro beach, which can be translated as "red castle" and takes its name from its ochre cliffs.
