The Alonissos National Marine Park
Created in 1992 to ensure the protection of the Mediterranean monk seal, classified as "at risk of extinction" since 1986, the National Marine Park covers about 2,250 km2 in the Aegean Sea. Despite the strictly protected areas, in some areas you can swim, dive and maybe meet one of the many species of the Park: dolphins, sperm whales, turtles, fish and if you are lucky you could meet the famous monk seal.
