La Digue in the Seychelles, a pure wonder!

The Seychelles archipelago needs little introduction: sparkling white sand, turquoise water and lush tropical vegetation. A catamaran cruise to the Seychelles is an incredible experience in a paradise. Going on holiday to the Seychelles is like being in a postcard landscape and, contrary to popular belief, the Seychelles are one of the most advanced countries in the world in terms of ecotourism: many natural parks, exceptional wildlife, giant turtles, sea turtles, whale sharks and various species of birds. Nature lovers will be thrilled. We invite you to explore La Digue island and its authenticity. Here you can disconnect from the rhythms of everyday life, return to simple pleasures, a gentle lifestyle and experience the Creole atmosphere.

How to get to La Digue Island in the Seychelles?

Considered one of the most beautiful islands in the Seychelles, La Digue, five kilometres long and three kilometres wide, has no airports. However, there are several ways to reach this little corner of paradise: first of all, if you are enjoying your boat hire in the Seychelles, you can easily reach the island of La Digue on board your catamaran from Mahé or Praslin. If you leave from Praslin, a must on a cruise to the Seychelles, the boat trip only takes about ten minutes. If you want to feel strong emotions, you can opt for the helicopter because La Digue is connected by a heliport to the island of Mahé, located about 45 kilometers.

Once you reach your destination, no car will disturb you as the most common transport is bicycle and electric vehicles. However, you will no longer find oxen-drawn wagons that were once used as taxis. So you will have to cycle to reach the most beautiful places on the island!

What to do on La Digue in Seychelles?

Despite its modest proportions, the island of La Digue in Seychelles has all the characteristics that make the Seychelles so fascinating. Life on the island is quiet and the atmosphere very relaxed. Among the various tourist attractions to discover, here are a few:

  • Villages: La Digue consists of three villages located in the northern part of the island: La Passe, La Réunion and L'Union. Take advantage of your stay in La Digue to discover these villages, which are the only three on the island, in a very relaxed atmosphere. Following the rhythm of life of the inhabitants, you can admire the Creole houses and taste the traditional cuisine.

  • Beaches: on the island of La Digue, you can enjoy dream beaches with white sand and turquoise water. One of the advantages of the beaches of La Digue is that, unlike some beaches, they are never crowde. Most beaches are protected by coral reefs, which facilitate swimming. However, be careful because the waves and currents are very strong and it can be dangerous to swim on some of these beaches. Among the beaches of La Digue there are Anse Union, Anse Source d'Argent (considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world), Grand Anse, Petite Anse, Anse Coco and many others.

  • Union State or Domaine de l'Union: Union State is a protected park located southwest of the city. You must pay a ticket that is valid throughout the day with the possibility to come back several times on the same day. You can see the famous giant turtles, vanilla plantations, the old cemetery and a copra mill (ancient technique to extract coconut oil).

  • The Veuve Nature Reserve: during your holidays on La Digue in the Seychelles, don't forget to discover this reserve created to protect the island's birds. To have a unique experience, go and meet the species "Veuve Noir", a magnificent bird with black plumage and bluish reflections. This species is at risk of extinction. If you love nature and are sensitive to its protection, you should know that donations are welcome!

  • The Eagle's Nest: the bravest and most sporty will not be able to miss this excursion of 4 km to reach the highest part of the island at 333 meters above sea level. When you reach the top, you will enjoy a spectacular view of the entire island of La Digue and the nearby islands. During your ascent in the heart of the tropical forest, you will meet insects, snails, spiders but above all giant centipedes.
