Sailing to the Elba Island from Puntone di Scarlino

Giulia Maurilinkedin Giulia Mauri

Editor for Filovent magazine. “Born and raised on Lake Como, I joined Filovent to share with you my passion for sailing! ”

Cristian and a group of friends sailed for five days to Elba Island with a boat rental in Marina di Scarlino. Puntone is a popular tourist spot, thanks to its natural beauty and the many activities on offer. Puntone stretches along a long sandy beach, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. This beach is characterized by crystal clear sea and still unspoiled nature, with large stretches of pine forest and the maquis. It is ideal to explore these areas by sailboat; in fact, the group of friends traveled on board of a Bavaria 41!

Cristian is an experienced navigator and always tries to involve his friends in his sea voyages.

"My friends did very well. After a few days of sailing they could do everything!"

DAY 1: Puntone → Cala Violina (1.4 nautical miles, 6 minutes)

The journey begins and the first stop is Cala Violina. Cala Violina is a beautiful beach located along the Tuscan coast in the province of Grosseto. It is located within the Maremma Natural Park, a protected nature reserve that stretches along the coast and inland of the Tuscan Maremma.

Cala Violina beach is distinguished by its fine, golden sand, which owes its name to the sound produced by the grains of sand when they are stepped on, reminiscent of that of a violin. The sea is clear and transparent, with colors ranging from blue to emerald green.

DAY 2: Cala Violina → Capo Bianco (21.5 nautical miles)

On the second day, the group sailed 21.5 nautical miles and anchored at Capo Bianco. Capo Bianco is one of the most beautiful and picturesque beaches on Elba Island, located in the southern part of the island, near the town of Marina di Campo. Capo Bianco beach stretches for about 200 meters and is characterized by fine white sand and crystal clear sea, with shades ranging from green to deep blue. The beach is framed by unspoiled nature and high cliffs, which create a breathtaking scenery!

DAY 3: Capo Bianco → Porto Azzurro (5 nautical miles)

The port of Porto Azzurro is one of the area's main attractions, thanks to its picturesque bay protected from the waves and the many boats that dock there. Here it is possible to organize sea excursions, as well as enjoy fresh seafood dishes in restaurants overlooking the harbor.

Porto Azzurro's beaches are varied and all very beautiful. Among the most famous: the beach of Barbarossa and the beach of Reale, both characterized by crystal clear waters and fine golden sand. Also, just a few kilometers from Porto Azzurro is Capoliveri beach, one of the most beautiful on the island of Elba.

And it was in Porto Azzurro that Cristian celebrated his birthday!

"Monday night was my birthday: 50 years old." I ask what they had done that was good, he replies “I can't say”. We started laughing! What could be better than celebrating one's birthday on a boat with lifelong friends? And especially with a chef on board!

“We were lucky enough to have a chef on board! We had a perfect galley, made to perfection. Osvaldo The Chef cooked every day for lunch and dinner. For my birthday he cooked a bis of risottos: one with asparagus and bacon and the other with pears, walnuts and honey. What a delight!"

DAY 4: Porto Azzurro → Caletta di San Gennaro (3.3 nautical miles)

“The anchorage that impressed me the most was definitely the San Gennaro Cove. It is a fascinating bay with two incredible beaches. From a naturalistic point of view it is very beautiful”.

The beach at Marina di San Gennaro stretches for more than a kilometer and is characterized by fine golden sand, washed by a clear, shallow sea.

DAY 5: Caletta di San Gennaro → Puntone (16.4 nautical miles)

The group of friends returns from the trip with many memories and many anecdotes. I ask Cristian if he would like to give some advice to our readers about the trip. He replies: “Do it!
