Key West is a town in Florida, United States. It is located at the western end of the Florida Keys. The city occupies the whole of the last of the islands which it takes its name and a set of islands that surround it. The part of Stock Island north of Federal Highway No.1, Fleming Key and Sigsbee Park north (two restricted military areas), and Sunset Key (formerly known as Tank Island residents with limited access) to the west part of the municipality. Key West is the county seat of Monroe County. The city is known to be the extreme southern point of the contiguous United States and the southern terminus of the route No.1. Located 207 miles southwest of Miami and 170 miles northwest of Havana, it offers unparalleled strategic position on the Straits of Florida within 150 km off the coast of Cuba. It is a major cruise port. Key West has a regional airport and a strategic naval base. The city center is located in the western and northwestern part of the island in the old historic district.
