This charming town, located around a small natural harbor, is one of the most popular seaside resorts in Dalmatia.
Numerous landmarks, including the cathedral, the former arsenal, and noble palaces, reflect a rich history influenced by Gothic and Renaissance... more+ art.
From the quay, follow your guide on a delightful walk through the narrow streets of Hvar, the most important town on the island. You will visit the Franciscan Monastery, dating back to the 15th century. The cloister, with its rounded arches and a well in the center, dominates the Renaissance-style monastery complex. The former spacious refectory and an adjacent small room have been transformed into a museum. The collection includes ancient books, coins, and the famous depiction of The Last Supper, a work from the Venetian school of Palma il Giovane dating back to the late 16th century. These elements in the refectory attract many visitors.
After crossing the main square, you will pass by St. Stephen's Cathedral (exterior visit). It was built in several stages during the 16th and 17th centuries, with the interior completed in the 18th century. The exterior is Renaissance, while the interior is Baroque.
Next, you will visit the Benedictine Monastery, which houses a beautiful collection of lace made from agave leaves.
At the end of the tour, you will have some free time before returning to your ship. This excursion is entirely on foot, starting from the ship. It involves about two hours of walking (approximately 1.5 km) and standing (stairs, museums, and monuments without elevators, cobbled streets, and uneven surfaces). We recommend comfortable walking shoes and sun protection. Appropriate clothing is recommended for visiting religious sites (shoulders and knees must be covered). Pre-reservations open about 2 months before departure and close 7 days before the cruise begins, subject to availability.
