Meet your guides at Heidelberg Castle, where you'll discover the exterior of this magnificent, partly ruined pink sandstone castle. Since the end of the 18th century, the castle ruins have inspired painters and poets, who saw them as a symbol of the greatness and decadence of human endeavors. Goethe, Hölderlin, Uhland and Eichendorff celebrated the castle landscape, while many painters chose it as their motif. Discover the geometric terraces of the Palatinate Garden, the "Hortus Palatinus", once considered the "eighth wonder of the world". Your guides will take you on a tour of the old town. Admire the exterior of the Church of the Holy Spirit, built between 1398 and 1441 as the burial place of the Prince Electors.

Wine tasting in the historic cellars of the Bassenheimer Hof, a 16th-century stately home. Then on to the Siegfrieds Mechanisches Musikkabinett museum, housed in a historic 15th-century building. It houses an impressive collection of mechanical musical instruments, one of the largest and most beautiful collections from the 18th to the 20th centuries.

Afternoon sailing through the beautiful valley of the Romantic Rhine, then on to the Moselle. With its castles, historic towns, vineyards and the famous Loreley Rock, this sublime landscape, deeply linked to history and legend, has inspired numerous writers, painters and composers.

Optional morning excursion: visit to Caves St Martin and wine tasting. In 1919, in the aftermath of... more+ the First World War, the Caves St Martin were founded. In the heart of these underground galleries, dug almost a kilometer deep, you'll discover the secrets of Luxembourg wine. Afterwards, transfer to the historic center of Remich for some free time. Nicknamed the Pearl of the Moselle, this small Luxembourg town is nestled in a sublime panorama of vineyards and dense forests that surround it like an amphitheater. Discover the facades and doors adorned with Roman and Baroque remains, the picturesque narrow streets and a sculpture by artist Will Lofy representing the Roman god of Wine.

In the afternoon, optional excursion: guided tour of Luxembourg City. Departure by coach from Remich to Luxembourg. Built on a plateau intersected by ravines, the capital of the Grand Duchy resembles a stage set. A guided walking tour of the historic center will introduce you to many of the city's special attractions: the Place d'Armes, the Place de la Constitution, the government district, the Corniche, the Old Town, the Grand Ducal Palace (exterior), the Place Guillaume II.

Guided tour of Heidelberg
Departure for the visit of Heidelberg. This cosmopolitan, friendly, and vibrant city is made up of 15 distinct neighborhoods and is particularly attractive to families, students, business people, and researchers. Its high quality of life comes through to... more+ visitors, who feel genuinely at home here. We'll begin with a visit to the outside of Heidelberg Castle, where you'll be able to see the Renaissance ruins and parts of its restoration. The castle has a history that is almost as old as the city itself. From either the Great Terrace or the gardens, enjoy an amazing view over Heidelberg, the Neckar River, and the valley. Don't miss seeing the Heidelberg Tun. Built in 1751 by Prince Elector Karl Theodor, it housed the wine paid as taxes by the wine growers in the region. Legend has it that the permanently intoxicated court jester who guarded the cask, Perkeo, died after mistakenly drinking a simple glass of water. You can also enjoy a stroll through the castle gardens, once considered a masterpiece of their time. Built upon several terraces, they were made up of many flower beds, mazes, sculptures, heated greenhouse with orange trees, large ponds, waterfalls, and a man-made grotto. We'll then head for the Neckarmünzplatz, on the banks of the Necker River, and continue with a guided tour of the old city. We'll pass by the Church of the Holy Spirit, the most famous church in Heidelberg, whose steeple dominates the town. Mini-train ride, wine tasting and visit to the Mechanical Music Museum in Rüdesheim
You’ll begin the tour with a guided tour of the Rüdesheim vineyards aboard a small train, during which you’ll discover the famous vineyards that were already cultivated by the Romans. During this tour, you’ll learn about the history of winemaking in... more+ the region and enjoy breathtaking views of Rüdesheim and the Rhine. The little train will then stop right in front of the historic Bassenheimer Hof winery, a 16th-century manor house, where you’ll take part in a wine tasting*. A winemaker from the Störzel family winery will guide you through a tasting of three wines—from the driest to the sweetest—while sharing the history of the winery and winemaking in the Rüdesheim region, along with some local anecdotes. After the tasting, you’ll head to the Museum of Mechanical Musical Instruments, located 100 meters from the winery. The “Siegfrieds Mechanisches Musikkabinett” is Germany’s first museum dedicated to musical instruments with built-in memory. From delicate music boxes to the colossal concert-piano orchestrions, no fewer than 350 automatic instruments are gathered here to form one of the largest and most beautiful collections from the 18th to the 20th century, displayed across more than 400 m². Visitors can also admire the tools and machines used to manufacture organ cylinders, music charts, note rolls, and music box plates. Regardless of their age, museum visitors always take great pleasure in discovering this unique music, the techniques of yesteryear, and how these instruments work. Depart from the boat for a panoramic bus tour of the city of Trier. Discover Trier’s Roman cultural heritage, its views of the Moselle River, and its magnificent scenery. Trier is the oldest city in Germany—so ancient that it predates Rome by 13 years.... more+ Trier’s age is not its only claim to fame. It is best known for having been one of the seats of Roman imperial power, one of the major centers of early Christianity, and a vibrant medieval city. From these three periods, the city has preserved valuable architectural landmarks. The city tour continues on foot. Discover (exterior tours)the amphitheater: in terms of size, it was the tenth largest in the entire Roman Empire. It could accommodate 30,000 spectators. Next, the imperial baths, which featured sumptuous interior design: marble-clad walls and floors, mosaics, wall frescoes, and statues. The entire complex of the thermal baths formed a square measuring 140 m by 250 m. We’ll continue on to the Roman basilica. Built around 310, the Constantinian basilica has been in continuous use ever since. From its inception, the building was imposing: 67 m long, 27 m wide, and 30 m high. Over time, numerous buildings were added to it. Finally, discover the famous Porta Nigra, which was designed to serve both as a fortress and as a monument (30 m high, 36 m wide, and 22 m deep). Even Rome today does not have an ancient building of this size in such a well-preserved condition. Take a stroll through the city center, which is marked by its medieval heritage, notably thanks to St. Peter’s Cathedral (exterior). Its oldest structures date back to 326, but the church’s overall layout was significantly altered in the 11th century. Also enjoy the atmosphere of the Market Square. Highly Baroque in style and located in the heart of downtown, it also charms visitors with its blend of architectural styles. The old half-timbered houses blend beautifully with the classic pastel-colored homes, adorned with white stucco. At the end of your guided tour, you’ll have some free time to wander around the city at your leisure. Return to the ship by coach. NOTES Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.
