The first stop on any tour of the city should therefore be the Deutsches Eck (German Corner) with its imposing monument to Emperor William I. Since 2002, it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Upper Middle Rhine Valley." Visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of Koblenz and its two rivers from the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Perched 120 meters above the Rhine, this 16th-century fortification is the second-largest fortress still standing in Europe. The gondola ride up the cable car is spectacular in itself.
