Civitavecchia Salerne
Arrival mid-day
Departure late afternoon

A veritable bouquet of singular emotions, the province... more+ of Salerno fascinates and seduces its travelers. Not far away, the ruins of Pompeii offer a grandiose and moving vision of what a Roman city of imperial times might have been like. The city, asleep under the ashes, has restored to us its artefacts, its houses and, in particular, its pastel-coloured frescoes, virtually intact. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Salerne Reggio de Calabre
Arrival early morning
Departure mid-afternoon

At the very tip of the Italian boot, Reggio... more+ Calabria guards the eastern shore of the Strait of Messina. From the lungomare, the seafront promenade, there are magnificent views of Sicily, just over 3 km away, and Mount Etna. Rebuilt after the 1908 earthquake, Reggio's checkerboard layout and Art Nouveau and Belle Époque architecture add to its charm, under the scent of bergamot, the region's king citrus fruit for confectionery and perfumery. A visit to the National Museum of Magna Graecia, one of the most important in Italy, is a must. Here you'll find the famous Bronzes of Riace, beautiful Greek statues dating from the 5th century BC, found offshore in 1972.

Reggio de Calabre Catane
Late afternoon departure

Sicily's second-largest city, Catania is dominated by the majestic... more+ silhouette of Mount Etna. Both nurturing and destructive, this smoke-crowned giant destroyed the city in the late 17th century. Catania was then rebuilt in the late Baroque style, and its many monuments from this period have earned it a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The Baroque churches of the harmonious Via Crociferi are a perfect illustration of the richness of this architectural heritage. During your stopover, don't miss a visit to the Cathedral of Saint Agatha, with its high apses of volcanic stone, and its piazza adorned with the Elephant Fountain, an animal said to have the power to calm the fury of Mount Etna...

Catane Gallipoli
Arrival mid-day
Departure early evening

Gallipoli, from the Greek kalle polis - beautiful city... more+ - lives up to its name. Situated on the heel of the boot, Gallipoli, nicknamed “the pearl of Apulia”, boasts many attractions. The whiteness of its facades recalls its Greek origins, while its architecture echoes its many influences. Its old town, perched on a limestone island, concentrates the cultural heritage of this city of a thousand faces, which was first a Roman colony, then Byzantine, owned by the Popes, Norman, under the rule of Taranto... It alone tells the story of the civilizations of the Mediterranean Sea.

Katakolon Itea Crossing the Corinth Canal
Arrival early morning
Departure mid-day

Nestled in a bay on the Gulf of Corinth, this small... more+ port is located on the Greek mainland, northwest of Athens. Stroll along the old-fashioned cobbled quays and catch a glimpse of the peaks closing in on the bay of Itea. You'll also be tempted by a visit to the sanctuary of Delphi. It lies on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, just ten kilometers from Itea. You're sure to marvel at this Unesco World Heritage site, whose ancient remains are surrounded by craggy peaks.

The Corinth Canal pierces the isthmus of the same name, turning the Peloponnese into an island by separating this region of Greece from the mainland. Inaugurated in 1893, the canal is just over six kilometers long, enabling commercial and tourist vessels with a draught of less than eight meters to avoid the 400-kilometer detour around the peninsula. Both sides of the canal reach a height of around 50 metres. From the outside decks, you can follow the ship's progress on this thin thread of water set between high ochre cliffs, a sight not to be missed.
