Kirkenes Vardo Berlevag
Your journey begins in the Arctic, in Kirkenes, just a few kilometers from the Russian... more+ border—even further east than St. Petersburg and Istanbul.

World War II History—The Varanger Museum features exhibits on the hardships endured by the city, which was bombed 328 times over four years, making it the most heavily bombed place in Europe after Malta. To learn more, visit the Andersgrotta bomb shelter, capable of housing up to 2,500 people underground.

The Northern Border — In the port of Vardø, explore Vardøhus Fortress (1737), the world’s northernmost fortification, which is still owned by the military. We then follow the coastline to the small port of Båtsfjord in the evening, then on to Berlevåg. Keep an eye out for Mount Tanahorn to the west or the Kjølnes Lighthouse flashing atop a cliff overlooking the Barents Sea.

Breakfast at the North Cape — We head to Honningsvåg, where an optional excursion allows you to have breakfast at the North Cape. The ship continues on to Hammerfest, home to the UNESCO-listed Meridian Column. You can join a mini-expedition into the mountains in the footsteps of local hero Adolf Lindstrøm.

We head south to Øksfjord, with a stop at the former trading port of Skjervøy.

Midnight Adventures — A stop in Tromsø, with the opportunity to explore the city by boat under the Midnight Sun in the summer. Optional stop at the Ølhallen, a traditional pub, for a beer in good company.

History and Culture — Arrival in Harstad in the morning, with an optional excursion focusing on... more+ the Vesterålen Islands (history, landscapes, cultural sites), before returning to the ship in Sortland. Passengers who remain on board will cross the Risøyrenna, a shallow channel built for Hurtigruten in the 1920s.

The Lofoten Islands and the Trollfjord — The landscape of the Lofoten and Vesterålen islands is truly breathtaking: rugged mountains, untamed wilderness, and picturesque fishing villages. After a brief stop in Risøyhamn, we head to Stokmarknes, the birthplace of Hurtigruten more than 130 years ago—with the option to visit the Hurtigruten Museum. We then sail through the narrow Raftsund, weaving our way between peaks rising to 1,000 m, and on into the magnificent Trollfjord: weather permitting, we’ll sail alongside sheer cliffs that seem close enough to touch. We arrive in Svolvær, where there are many optional excursions: horseback riding on the beach at sunset, spectacular hikes, a speedboat tour of the fjord, or simply exploring the town’s cafés, pubs, and restaurants.

Trolls and Mountains — Crossing the Arctic Circle is a rite of passage, celebrated on deck in the... more+ purest Arctic tradition—with a spoonful of cod liver oil. As you sail along the Helgeland coast, you’ll catch sight of the strange Torghatten mountain (258 m), pierced by a hole 160 m long, 35 m high, and 20 m wide, formed during the Ice Age—hiking on the mountain is possible. The Seven Sisters mountain range is among the must-see sites: according to legend, seven beautiful troll sisters, caught unawares by the sunrise, were turned to stone, creating these seven peaks.

From Ducks to Salmon — A brief stop in the charming trading port of Nesna, then on to Sandnessjøen, with an optional excursion to the Vega Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its centuries-old connection to eider ducks (used to make down comforters). In Brønnøysund, take an optional excursion to explore the heart of Norwegian aquaculture and sample fresh salmon from April through October. Above the Arctic Circle, there’s a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights in winter; in late spring and summer, enjoy the light of the endless days.

Sumptuous landscapes as you sail
As you sail along the coast, you'll notice the importance of fish in the Norwegian coastal villages.
Kristiansund is known as Norway's “dried cod capital”, thanks to its long tradition of exporting salted fish. Take an excursion along the Atlantic Route, one of Norway's national tourist routes. The 8 km stretch crosses eight bridges and pastoral landscapes surrounded by the sea.
The Bergtatt marble mine is another exciting excursion, taking you deep into the mountains to an illuminated underground lake, before dining in the mine's huge hall.
Passengers who have stayed on board in Kristiansund will cross the open sea to Molde, Norway's “City of Roses”. In the distance, you'll see the peaks of the Romsdal Alps beyond the fjord, known as the “Molde panorama”.

Our journey together along the Norwegian coast—at least for now—will come to an end later... more+ today. Overnight, we’ll make stops in Ålesund and Torvik. As we approach Måløy, if you get up early enough, you might catch a glimpse of the Coastal Express sailing north.

Morning Highlights — You’ll have the chance to see the Nordfjord, beneath the massive Jostedal Glacier, the largest on the European mainland. The ship will then dock in Florø in the morning, where you can explore the harbor and marina.

The Final Stretch — As we leave Florø, you’ll catch a glimpse of the Stabben Lighthouse, a favorite subject among photographers. You’ll also enjoy breathtaking views as we sail through the mouth of the Sognefjord, the longest and widest fjord in all of Norway. To reach our final port in the afternoon, the ship will wind its way through the last islands and reefs of our coastal itinerary in Norway, then sail down the Hjeltefjord to arrive in Bergen.

Midnight concert in Tromsø's wooden cathedral
You'll be met as you leave the ship and taken to Tromsø's magnificent cathedral. Built in 1861 in the neo-Gothic style, this impressive edifice boasts the finest Målselv wood. The cathedral's long, cruciform structure offers gentle acoustics that lend... more+ themselves perfectly to a night of musical magic.

On arrival, you'll receive your playlist for the evening, along with notes to enhance your experience. Expect to fall under the spell of this talented trio of musicians as they take you on a journey through Norway's musical heritage.

Excursion to the Vesterålen Islands
Our tour begins with a brief exploration of the streets of Harstad. This is the third largest community in Northern Norway. Its history is rooted in herring fishing, the army and, more recently, oil rigs.
On a clear day, you should be able to see the... more+ Trondenes peninsula to the north of the town. You'll visit a 13th-century medieval stone church, the most northerly of its kind in the world. We'll stop off at the Trondenes Historical Center, which displays artifacts found in the region from different eras, from the early Stone Age through the Middle Ages to the Viking Age and the modern era. The museum also boasts a reconstructed farmhouse dating from around 1200, complete with granary, forge and moated church.
Departing Trondenes, we'll take the bus for a scenic drive across the island of Hinnøya to board our ferry at Gullesfjord. On board, enjoy freshly baked pancakes, waffles and lefse and a hot drink as you admire the scenery. The tour continues by bus along the Sigerfjord to Sortland, where your ship awaits.

Founded in 997, this ancient Viking capital is rich in culture and history, but has also established itself as a Norwegian innovation leader and knowledge center.

The bus tour of Trondheim will take us past the ancient capital's magnificent red bridge and... more+ the old wooden buildings of the Bakklandet district, which have stood along the Nidelva River since the 18th century.

We'll then enjoy a magnificent panorama of the bustling city from the Utsikten viewpoint, which overlooks the nearby Kristiansten fortress and offers a glimpse of the island of Munkholmen in the fjord.

Our next stop is Nidaros Cathedral, Norway's national shrine. Built over the tomb of St. Olaf in 1070, it boasts dazzling architecture and Gothic-style ornamentation masterfully carved into the stone. After a captivating guided tour of the cathedral, you'll receive a book on the Norwegian Our Lady as a souvenir gift.
