In the evening, optional... more+ authentic excursion/experience: Porto "by night". During a panoramic coach tour, you'll discover one of Europe's oldest cities, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Maritime epics opened it up to the world and gradually transformed it. Today, the city reveals the splendor of its past, and you'll see the Sao Bento train station, famous for its azulejos.

Morning sailing to Régua. You'll sail through the Douro Valley. Bordered by vineyards for almost... more+ 200 km, the golden river reveals itself to travelers, with its wild, unspoiled nature. To tame the river, dams and locks calm its course. You'll pass through the gigantic Carrapatello lock, the highest in Europe at 35m.
Arrival in Régua in the afternoon.
Optional authentic excursion/experience: Lamego. A panoramic coach tour of this small town with its pretty 16th- and 18th-century bourgeois houses, before reaching the Baroque sanctuary of Notre-Dame-des-Remèdes, 600m above the town. The most courageous can climb the 700 steps of the double-flight staircase, whose 9 landings are adorned with azulejos.

In the morning, optional authentic excursion/experience: Douro Museum and Quinta do Tedo. Housed in... more+ a building emblematic of the region, this museum traces the history of the Douro wine-growing region, a World Heritage Site, and provides an insight into the cultivation and exploitation of wine in the valley. The tour continues with a discovery of olive oil. Olive trees, symbols of the Mediterranean and southern cultures, are omnipresent on the banks of the Douro, alternating with vineyards planted in staircases. Visit a quinta that produces both the famous Porto wine and its olive grove to produce oil, a complementarity of production that reflects navigation in the valley of the Golden River. Discover production methods and taste different varieties of Port wine and olive oil.

Optional excursions:
Authentic: Porto. Departure by coach for a guided tour of Porto. You'll visit the Stock Exchange Palace, where you'll see the gilded hall covered in gold leaf and the Moorish salon inspired by the Alhambra, followed by the Sao Francisco church, a Gothic and Baroque masterpiece. At the end of the tour, you'll head to one of the city's famous wine cellars for a tasting session.
Experience: Porto by streetcar and the Portuguese streetcar museum. Take a streetcar ride through Porto's picturesque streets to the mouth of the Douro River. Stop off at the streetcar museum to see a unique collection retracing a century of Porto streetcar history. The tour ends with a tasting of local specialties. Return to the ship.

Authentic: Guimarães. Departure by coach to... more+ Guimarães. Considered the cradle of Portugal, Guimarães was the birthplace of Alphonse Henriques, the country's first king. The medieval heart of the city, located within the city walls, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Experience: hike to Vila Nova de Gaia and wine tasting. This unusual walk will take you through Porto's old town, in its lower part with the Douro quays lined with unusual houses decorated with azulejos. Then on to Vila Nova de Gaia, where you'll be transported back to the 17th century, when English merchants set up their winery here. This is where you'll find some of Porto's most famous wineries. Cellar visit followed by wine tasting. Return to the ship.

The first stone was laid on February 14th, 1750 and gave way to the construction of a massive temple overlooking the city and providing a breathtaking view over the misty mountains of the surrounding landscape. Departure by coach from the Villa Nova de Gaia Quay, facing Porto from across the Douro river and the famous Dom Luis I Bridge, built between 1881 and 1886 by French engineer Theophile Seyrig, one of Gustave Eiffel's pupils. Porto, the second largest city... more+ in Portugal, stands out from the steep banks of the Douro river with its mixture of grey facades and red tiles interspersed with unusual architectural masterpieces. Its historical center was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. We'll discover The Palácio da Bolsa (Stock Exchange Building), built in 1834 by the city's Commercial Association. It has remained their headquarters to this day. After climbing up the beautiful granite and marble stairway, we'll visit the former Tribunal Room, the Golden Room and the Arab Room, decorated in the exotic Moorish Revival style. Afterwards, we'll visit the Igreja de São Francisco (Church of Saint Francis), also known as the "Golden Church”. It was originally a modest convent founded by Franciscan monks in the 12th century, before being further altered by prominent Porto families in the 15th and 16th centuries. They were responsible for the Baroque style interior which mingles with the large, elaborate rose window in Gothic style on the main façade in a fascinating mixture of styles reflecting the various eras it went through. We'll cross the Dom Luis I Bridge again back to Villa Nova de Gaia for the visit of a wine cellar. Porto's pride notably stems from its famous wine known the world over, which you will get to taste*. The museum collection comprises the oldest cars pulled by horses, called "Americanos,” to the last trams from the 1950s and 1960s.
