Can I bring a pet on board a houseboat?
Updated on: 26/05/2025Riverboat rental companies allow pets (dogs, cats, small animals) on board; some do so free of charge (such as Les Canalous, where pets are welcome on board—up to two per boat), while others charge a flat fee averaging around 50 euros (80 euros at LeBoat). Make sure your pet can swim.
Be careful when passing through locks, as this can be dangerous for your pet if it falls into the water. We recommend keeping your pet on a leash and watching it closely during this time!
Additionally, if you’re traveling abroad, we encourage you to research the necessary precautions. In particular, the country will likely require that your pet be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies.
