Do I need to provide meals for the skipper, the hostess, or the cook?
Updated on: 26/05/2025That's right—if you rent a boat and hire a professional skipper (or a hostess or cook), you're responsible for their meals, so you'll need to plan for that when you go grocery shopping at the marina. You can either 1) prepare a meal for them (of course, if you have a hostess, she will handle the cooking), 2) invite them to a restaurant with you, or 3) give them money so they can go out to eat on their own. It’s just like on a business trip—generally, the employee doesn’t pay for their own meals…!
