Can I be put in touch with the skipper to plan my vacation?
Updated on: 26/05/2025If you rent a boat and hire a professional skipper, the skipper acts as a captain who, during your cruise, can advise you on anchorages worth visiting and will maneuver the boat to take you wherever you wish, depending on what is feasible and the weather conditions. However, it is generally not possible to speak with him beforehand for three reasons:
- his identity will be chosen or confirmed at the last minute by the base manager,
- he is not the organizer of your cruise: his role is to skipper the boat, not to manage the practical aspects of cruise preparation
- he will normally be skippering a boat in the weeks leading up to your charter.
If you’d like to speak with a professional on-site, the base manager’s contact information can be found in your customer portal under the “Contact and Practical Information” section. They will either provide you with your skipper’s contact information or advise you directly. If you have general questions about sailing or the region, we can likely answer them as well! In any case—and this is the charm of a sailing vacation—your itinerary isn’t set in stone; it will depend on the weather and your mood at the time.
If you’ve booked a crewed charter, you’ll be put in touch with the boat’s captain
In certain regions, such as Italy or the Balearic Islands, many boat rental companies do not provide a skipper. If you choose to book such a boat but cannot skipper it yourself, you will need to hire a skipper through an agency.
