Does the skipper have his own bathroom?

Updated on: 26/05/2025
If you rent a boat and hire a skipper and/or a hostess as an extra, you must provide them with access to a bathroom and a shower. You don’t need to give them a bathroom for their exclusive use, but they must have access to one. Generally speaking, when you rent a boat where the skipper is an extra, this means the boat can also be rented without a skipper. So, on the floor plan, you can see all the cabins and bathrooms on board (there isn’t a hidden cabin or bathroom specifically for the skipper).

On some boats (particularly many catamaran models), the bathrooms are accessible only from inside the double cabins. The skipper and/or hostess will therefore inevitably have to pass through one of the cabins to use the restroom or shower.

On luxury crewed charters, it’s different. The skipper and other professional crew members are included in the charter; they have their own cabins and bathrooms, which aren’t necessarily listed in the description or on the floor plan.
