Is it a good idea to rent a monohull with a skipper?

Updated on: 26/05/2025
Yes, if you know what to expect and have at least a basic interest in sailing. No, if you originally wanted to rent a catamaran but, due to lack of availability or budget constraints, you’re settling for a monohull. In that case, you’re likely to be disappointed with your vacation. A monohull is a seagoing vessel that heels in crosswinds and is often prone to rolling at anchor or while motoring. Even on a large monohull (14–15 meters / 45–50 feet), the experience will always be more rustic than on a 12-meter / 40-foot catamaran.

A catamaran, on the other hand, is perfectly suited for a relaxing vacation: spacious, very stable, and far more comfortable in every way. However, for the same passenger capacity, it is generally significantly more expensive.
