I have to cancel my rental and I didn't purchase cancellation insurance. Will I be reimbursed if the boat is rented to someone else?
Updated on: 26/05/2025No. If you cancel the rental, depending on the date of cancellation, you will forfeit either the deposit or the full amount paid (see our terms and conditions, Article 12). These terms apply regardless of whether the boat is re-rented by the rental company. It is therefore not possible to recover the amounts paid. This is due to several factors:
- If the boat is re-rented, it will likely be at a very steep discount.
- Staff members have been involved and have worked on the case at both Filovent and the charter company.
- If customers were always reimbursed in the event of a re-rental, this could encourage some crews to engage in a form of speculation: booking a boat, then monitoring price changes for other boats and looking for bargains at the same time

Our advice: get cancellation insurance. The price per person is reasonable, and in case of the unexpected, you’ll be glad you took it out. If the reason is covered by the cancellation insurance terms, the insurer will reimburse you for the lost funds.
