Horta is the capital of the municipality of the same name located in the archipelago of the Azores.
The municipality has a population of 14,994 inhabitants in the 2011 census, for a density of 88 inhabitants / km and a total area of ''173.1 km2. The municipality occupies the whole of the island of Faial.
The city of Horta "intramural" capital of Faial has about 6,000 inhabitants, it is nicknamed The smallest city in the world by its inhabitants.
The city is home to the Parliament of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
