La Gomera is located in the west of the Canary Islands, an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean forming a Spanish autonomous community. It is surrounded by east Tenerife, El Hierro southwest and La Palma northwest. La Gomera is one of the smallest islands of the Canary Islands with an area of ''372 km2. A tenth of the island is occupied by the Garajonay National Park inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. Sparsely inhabited, the island is popular with hikers for its unspoilt nature.
