Teos is a maritime city of Ionia, on a peninsula between Chytrium and Myonnesus, north of Ephesus, about 40 kilometers south-west deSmyrne (now Izmir), near the port of Sigacik (or S?ěac?k) in Turkey . The ancient city had two harbors. The main south is now silted up. The second, further north, is still used today by fishermen Sigacik. During the Roman period, the city was known for its wine. The modern village of Sigacik is located near the ruins of Teos. The interior of what was once the city has now grown extensively, making it difficult to excavate the site. With plowed, pottery was brought to the surface, which was collected by an archaeological mission.
