Do I need a licence to rent a boat?

For bareboat rentals, a boat licence and sailing experience are generally required. For skippered rentals or crewed cruises, no licence is needed. Canal boats can be rented without a licence.

What’s the difference between a skippered rental and a crewed cruise?

With a skipper, you rent the boat and a professional handles navigation. With a full crew, you are a passenger on a commercially operated yacht with captain, hostess and chef — a premium all-inclusive service.

Can I rent a canal boat without prior experience?

Yes. Canal boats are licence-free and beginner-friendly. A short briefing is provided at departure to get you comfortable with handling and locks.
