Can I book a one-way trip for my river cruise?
Updated on: 26/05/2025Yes, you can choose a one-way trip for your river cruise. However, please note the following restrictions if you opt for this option:
- You will be charged an additional fee of between €100 and €200, covering the cost of returning the boat (driver + fuel).
- If you arrived by car, you will need to either arrange a taxi to return to the departure port at the end of the cruise (approximately €100–€150 depending on the distance) or pay an additional fee for “transfer of your vehicle to the arrival base.” In the latter case, an employee of the rental company will drive your car to the arrival base (minimum €250 for their fee and return taxi fare). Please note that rental companies are not insured to transport heavy vehicles (trucks, RVs, cars with trailers) or motorcycles.
- Your arrival port must be a port where the rental company has staff to greet you and handle the disembarkation formalities.
- The choice of boat is limited, because to make a one-way trip, the boat you want must be available at least two days after the end of your cruise to make the return trip. If it is already booked immediately after your dates, a one-way trip is not possible.
That is why we recommend taking a round-trip, especially for a first-time experience: it is 1) much simpler, 2) more economical, and 3) it gives you more options to find the ideal boat. Furthermore, don’t assume that a round-trip is boring just because you’re passing through the same places again. In fact, you’ll make different stops on the outbound and return legs, and you won’t see the scenery in the same way at all!
