If one of my crew members has sleep apnea, can we bring a breathing machine on board?
Updated on: 26/05/2025This is possible, but we ask that you do two things:
- Please notify Filovent in writing before booking, specifying the type of device you use. Please note that some charter companies refuse to allow passengers who require oxygen tanks to board.
- Notify the charter company in writing, with Filovent copied in, as your cruise approaches, to ensure they are fully aware of the situation (you will find their email address in the "Contacts and Practical Information" section of your booking, in the customer portal).
Also, keep in mind that if you spend a night at anchor outside a port, the batteries are your only source of electricity. And even on a newer boat with batteries in good condition, you’re never safe from a failure or depletion if you’ve run power-hungry appliances overnight (refrigerator, kettle, etc.).

As a precaution, we recommend spending your nights in port connected to shore power to avoid the risk of running out of electricity.

Portable generators are available, allowing you to be more self-sufficient in terms of power.
CPAP, short for "Continuous Positive Airway Pressure," is a type of machine used to help people suffering from sleep apnea. This device delivers ambient air, not oxygen.
If you’re renting a riverboat, stop at river ports along the way rather than setting up camp in the middle of nature. Expect to pay between 0 and 20 euros per night, depending on the municipality.
