Will I get a refund if bad weather prevents me from fully enjoying my cruise?
Updated on: 26/05/2025Unfortunately, no. The weather is an unpredictable factor to consider when renting a boat. Strong winds can easily keep you “stuck in port” for a day or two, or even longer. Furthermore, a storm warning while you’re far from the rental base may very well force you to return early to avoid the risk of returning the boat late (and paying penalties). This can happen particularly with the Mistral on the French Riviera/Corsica, or with the Meltemi in the Aegean Sea.
However, if your rental is very short-term (a weekend, for example) and weather conditions prove dangerous for sailing, the rental company, at its discretion, may offer to reschedule your trip. But again, it is under no obligation to do so: the boat has been booked and made available.

Please note that cancellation insurance has absolutely nothing to do with the weather. If you purchase it, it covers you and your crew against individual risks (illness, accident, death...), as the weather is not an individual risk at all.
