Brandenburg is one component of the Federated States of Germany. It completely surrounds the city-state of Berlin and is located in the center of the former German Democratic Republic. The name is derived from the city of Brandenburg an der Havel where was the seat of power at the time of the establishment of the Mark Brandenburg. With a population density of 86 inhab. / Km ², the German state Brandenburg is the least densely populated after that of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. There are the poorest regions in Germany, some regions with a lower than average income the Czech Republic. On the other hand, with its Prussian history is one of the best equipped German states in cultural landscapes.
