The capital Malé, where more than 70,000 people live, is overcrowded. The entire surface of the island is covered with buildings, buildings now pushing vertically. To remedy this problem, the government has created an artificial island by pumping sand at the bottom of the sea and making a huge pile.
Our base is in Male and from there you can visit the many islands and islets that make up the atoll.
